Man of Tai Chi product reviews

Man of Tai Chi is a 2013 Chinese-American martial arts action film on DVD, directed by and starring Keanu Reeves - a multilingual movie partly inspired by the life of Reeves' friend, stuntman Tiger Chen.

Tiger Chen is a Tai Chi student who is rather rebellious and uses Tai Chi to fight despite his master's concerns. When the temple where he studies get threatened from modern redevelopment, he fights in an underground fight club to get the money the temple needs. However he soon realizes that his employer has other, more sinister, motives.

Problem with movies is that you make assumptions before you watch them. Like I assumed Keanu would be taught Tai Chi and would have to defend a girls honour or something - how wrong was I!!

Keanu Reeves runs a company where private members pay to watch fights which usually result in the losers death. He finds unique competitors and gets them to fight at various locations for money. Tiger Chen is an expert in Tai Chi and needs money fast so becomes the ideal contender for this underworld. Tai Chi is supposed to be relaxing but he uses it as a fight technique which was new to the arena.

It took us two nights to watch this movie - first night watched 20minutes of subtitles and got too much as both tired so gave up. The subtitles moved to fast and none of the characters were really appealing. Second night endured again and really wish we hadn't. Could not get into it at all. Found Tiger had no real substance or personality and was basically watching boring fights. The cop who was out to get the club was also unlikeable and so you weren't touting for either side. Predictable most of the time and just a bad script. My husband enjoyed the fights but wished they focused more on the different styles.

Really disappointed in the movie. Expected so much more from Mr Reeves.
