I Am Jellyfish product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsChased to the depths of the bottomless blue,
What does a tiny Jellyfish do?

Jellyfish is quietly crooning in the shallows, when knife-nosed Swordfish swooshes, races and chases her, down, down, down, deep into the dark blue sea. At that moment, stealthy Squid stretches a tentacle, tussling and tossing Swordfish in the darkness. Who will help Swordfish? He makes a last wish... Then... ON goes a light - it's Jellyfish!

This delightfully funny bedtime story by an award-winning writer and illustrator has a glow-in-the-dark cover for kids to discover once the lights are turned out.

With a 4 year old who has numerous glow in the dark items scattered throughout her bedroom, as well as several nightlights and torches, I knew that a book which glows in dark was one that my daughter was sure to be going to love, especially being based on Jellyfish and all creatures great and small that live throughout the sea, you see Miss 4 is a huge fan of everything to do with the ocean she loves to swim, go fishing with her Dad and visit Kelly Tarltons so this book was right up her alley.

From the moment I turned the first page of this book I was amazed by the high quality of it, from the beautiful thick and somewhat glossy pages to the most creative and artistic images, the fish and sea creatures were full of colour and each had so much details from the designs on their bodies to the expressions on their faces, each speaking 1000 words. I loved the way that as the pictures seemed to travel down further deep down into the ocean that the colours of the water seemed to darken this was a beautiful touch and a great conversation starter with my daughter who was so curious as to why this was. The book on most pages opened as most books do, simply turning from one page to the next from side to side, however there were several pages within the book which I had to turn upright as the pictures went long ways up, this was a neat change as it showed in a way just how deep the ocean is and also how far some creatures are able to swim.

The story was very well written full of rhymes and beautiful patterns making it very fun... and funny to read, my daughter laughed her way through it as we read it and thought the part where the big squid said "YOU LOOK NICE!" as she thought he was being cheeky and going to start chasing the Jellyfish around to catch him and eat him. The book was composed of many describing words which Miss 4, and her daycare friends all loved and enjoyed it was a great resource for teaching them how words not only rhyme but also how many descriptive words can mean more than one thing, something which they are currently learning about in 4 year old time, so to see this book presented in such a way was brilliant.

Throughout the beautiful illustrations and the amazingly written story however was a truly important message of how important it is to be kind and helpful towards one another, no matter how big or how small you are, everyone is unique and everyone has something very special to offer, the Jellyfish showed this well by doing what was right throughout the whole story.

Overall this is a absolutely beautiful book one which we have and will continue to read over and over again, both at home and at the daycare where I work. Miss 4 is a huge fan of the glow in the dark cover and insists of putting it under a light each night to make sure it glows in the dark the very best it can at bedtime for her, I can report that the pages do infact glow up very nicely within a few short minutes of being under a light which is perfect. A great book with a truly important message that 100% recommend.
