This is the second Sage Cookson's book we have read and just like the first one 'Sweet Escape' it is perfect for my daughters reading ability. We started reading it on Thursday night and as the chapters are only a couple of pages long it makes for a great nightly read. We have been going non stop since Friday night so today (being Sunday) we got home from a Christmas party just before 2 pm and as both girls were rather tired we cuddled under a blanket and read together, with my youngest just listening.

As we had already read the first three chapters it took us less that an hour to finish the rest of the book in its entirety. We took turns reading a chapter each. As it was a book about a missing emerald ring, I asked both girls there opinion on what they had thought had happened. Some interesting answers were given and a few laughs were had. For me the book was extremely predictable and I had correctly guessed what would happen and as neither girls had asked what my guess was, they were both shocked when the truth was revealed.

Another bonus for the book (as it was set in a bakery) the last couple of pages provide you with a recipe for Beef and Mushroom Pies. It seems basic enough and we have decided that when we have more time (next year) the girls will make it for dinner one night. They have even discussed alternative recipes they could do but it got rather silly and included worms and bugs - I think at this stage we will just stick to the original recipe!

This book is a very easy, fun read and would appeal to girls from the age of 7 to about 9 years of age. Its great for those children who have learnt to read and are ready for a chapter book but still on that simplistic level. My seven year old only needed help on a couple of occasions and as it is set in Australia has that home made feel to it all. A great family read and we all agree can not wait for the next installment.
