The first time we were introduced to Derek "Danger" Dale, was a great read, lots of fun and jokes. So as soon as my daughter saw this book she wanted to read it with me. She is not yet reading independently for fun so I embrace any chance to share reading with her in that way.
In this book Dale is up against his same enemy, but this time he has a different weapon and things get very scary. Or not that scary - scary for some of the characters but very comical for those reading along. The layout of the book is a bit like a secret spy report with the chapters being headed up with location and time stamps.
The pictures are all in black and white but they add a great deal to the funny situations. In some cases the pictures even finish what the words don't say. I really enjoyed the humour in this book. There is plenty in here for adults as well as kids. It has heaps of slapstick, and reminded me of Phineas and Ferb or for us parents the likes of Get Smart.
We read this over the course of three days. After reading it, my daughter was keen to read it again from the start which is a great sign of a well enjoyed book. And even funnier, was a visiting family friend, who picked up the book the other night and started to read it quite happily. I think she even knocked the whole thing out in about 30 minutes which I imagine would be easy to do if you were reading it silently and were a confident reader.
