My Miss Eight and I had started watching this when it screened on Television and really enjoyed the first episode but then I forgot that it was on and unfortunately we only viewed a few random sections from the next few episodes. I was really pleased when I saw that this had been released on DVD as it was definitely a series I thought we would all enjoy watching together'
A few days before Christmas my Miss Eight wasn't well so instead of the usual movie I gave her this to watch. She absolutely loved watching the whole series and has watched the entire six episodes several times over. Her younger sisters also really enjoyed watching it though not quite so avidly probably due to shorter attention spans. Weeks later Miss Eight is still coming out with facts that she has learned and we are going to re watch several episodes as our recent beach holiday had her even more interested in some of the things she had learnt watching the DVD.
I think what we all loved most about this series was the amazing cinematography and the incredible view points from underwater. I did find it absolutely captivating and I loved the time delay and how sequences were sped up or slowed down. It is absolutely mind blowing some of the footage and I found myself wishing that I could dive as it must be incredible to experience some of the scenery first hand. The quality of the footage shown is just so real.
This really is an amazing visual masterpiece but also a very informative one. Each of the six episodes has something different and I think this was an excellent way to introduce my girls to what is beneath the surface of our biggest back yard in a way that I hope makes them even more curious and more excited about the ocean depths.
I can definitely recommend this DVD and even if you watched some or all of the series on Television this is a fantastic purchase as a gift or to share with others or just watch again by yourself. It is fantastic value and I hope that NZ on Air and TVNZ continue to support the production of such good quality documentary's.
