There once was an ugly duckling, with feathers all stubby and brown, and the other birds, in so many words, said, 'Get out of town!'

I saw this was available for review and thought that my kids might like the book, first thing they asked was why was the book called the ugly duckling so I told them to wait and we will have a look.
I usually put some music on as a bed time settling routine and thought this would be a perfect thing as it is a CD so no pictures to keep them awake. They have since asked for this CD to be played at least once a night ever since and tonight when I finally got around to listening to it and reading in the book my six year old could sing along with it.
I asked the kids what their favourite thing about the book was and I was told that they loved the story and the pictures and the music. I had a look at the book and I noticed the expressions on the duckling face and the tears when he was sad. I really liked the book, would love to have more of this sort of book as the kids can listen to the CD and follow in the book or just listen to the CD while relaxing. The pictures are well drawn and easy for the kids to be able to relate to the duckling. Only bad thing I can say is that the story is a bit too short but then I know that the story is not all that long anyway. It did start again but only the music.
I would highly recommend this book to parents of young readers.

And a special warning, keep an extra close eye on Mum when the circus rolls into town. She might try to get in the lion's cage, or even sell you to the ... more...
