I have always been a great fan of NatGeo... I recall passing many happy hours on Youth Camps working my way through the massive library of NG magazines the camp somehow managed to accumulate. Documentaries and knowledge-enhancing resources as a general whole have always drawn me.
So when I discovered that many of the NatGeo shows had been transcribed to DVD, I was very interested indeed... and to get this one, a summary of some of the very best from the last *37* years, well, that was just a great start to my day, I tell you!
Yes, 37 years. 'Grizzly', from way back in 1967, is on this disc! However, if you consider that the original compilation was made in 1994, it's a lot more understandable.
The shows are still as stunning and full of insightful impact today as they were back in their original broadcast days, if not more so actually, because they not only expand the knowledge-base of Joe Public, they also clearly show us how far our knowledge as a species has progressed, and also how much more refined our documentary techniques have become. All round benchmark film making.
Overall, I was quite impressed, but then again, I expected to be. The bonus features were nice, and I have cancelled some travel plans... those crocs just freak me out. :)
