As I wandered into the store, I glanced around and was immediately struck with the wonderful atmosphere of the restaurant. An Indian elegance I haven't encountered anywhere else.
While I ordered a Chicken Korma and rice to go, I had an interesting chat with some of the staff, about a number of topics, which helped while away the surprisingly short time until my meal was ready. Even if you are ordering a single meal for one, there is no 'scoop it out of a pan' here, the meal was made, from scratch, just for me.
A container of light, fluffy, and above all, non-sticky Basmati Rice, and a second filled to the brim with a creamy flavoursome sauce with a decent portion of roasted chicken pieces holding it down.
I got home, grabbed a bowl, filled it with half the supplied rice and half of the curry, and was surprised at the impressive portion this resulted in. For $10, you could easily feed two people a wholesome meal, just by adding a small side-dish.
The only SLIGHT let-down for me was the result of my own ignorant words. When I ordered, I was asked "How would you like your Korma?" I replied "Mild please" assuming incorrectly that the scale was by authentic taste levels. However it had obviously been adjusted to suit the typically bland Kiwi palatte, leaving me with a Korma that carried no real spice at all! If you like flavour, don't be afraid to ask for the Medium or even Hot... this is sage advice.
Overall, I was really quite impressed. parking should be simple in the mid evening around 7pm, but I wouldn't want to bank on parking being readily available on Main Street after about 8pm, due to it's proximity to the movie theatre. I plan to go back and try some of their other dishes, many of which I was unaware of until I took one of the handy menus located in the box outside their front door... a great idea for those who wish to consider a take-home meal.
