I have been searching for some great art books for my 11 year old daughter who is really into drawing and painting at the moment. I hadn't seen much in the shops so I searched on line and came across the Usbourne art series of books which really appealed to me and then later found some for sale on trade me.
This book is fantastic, it shows lots of different ways of using art materials with information on how to use each thing like how to clean paintbrushes and store them. The art projects have clear step by step instructions to follow or children could easily come up with their own ideas by using the pictures and choosing their own materials to use. For example one of the projects used crayon and ink, and we didnt have any ink so we created the same picture using paint.
It is already packed full of ideas for art projects but children can certainly use it to create their own ideas by copying the techniques shown. There is a section in the back of the book that touches on further ideas that show different ways to do some of the projects in the book.
It would make a great teaching resource in the classroom as it has so many ideas and could last a whole year worth of art projects. Definetly a good buy for us and it will certainly keep my 11 year old busy on the weekends and especially on rainy days.

He found that while often off-the-wall, quirky and sometimes even downright dangerous, each experience enriched his ... more...
