Texas BBQ Pork BellyProduct reviews...
Out of all the St Andrews Limes products I have tried, this has been the least favourite. The smell to start with threw me, its very strong and when tasted on its own very bitter and overpowering. This is a marinade, so a little does go a long way.
I felt that I needed some more inspiration to start using this product, although there are suggestions on the label .. it still took me some time before I got up the courage to try on 'real' food. I added this to a pork curry in the slow cooker one night instead of using lemon juice and found that it was a good alternative, but nothing special. Tonight I used on my baked blue cod, and its true colours shone through. It worked a treat and was lovely. I baked the blue cod with cream cheese and the lime burst and wrapped it in bacon. The zesty lime taste was there, but not overpowering the other flavours. I would use it with fish again, it worked well.
Overall, this is a product i probably wouldn't buy again as I did find it hard to use, I ended up using it for the sake of it and then only really substituting it where lemons would go. It is a great concentrate, and if you were after a really lime flavour in your marinate or cooking, then this product would be perfect.
This is a very yummy product. To me it was very powerful in taste, and a bit bitter, however in saying that i feel it goes best with chicken. I pre marinated the chicken in the lime burst for 4 hours, and the result of this was heaven. The scent of the Lime Burst in the kitchen had everyone's taste buds watering.
I do recommend that, because it is a strong taste (for me) i found the lime chicken better as left overs the next day. The taste had mellowed and wasn't as powerful. For me personally i think this product needs pepper added to it, however that can be done manually at home.
Even though the product says it is best with Chicken and Fish i also used it on some lamb shanks. Cooked in a slow cooker for 9 Hours it had just the slightest hint of something different to the meat. My 5 year old daughter enjoyed this new taste. I would definitely buy this product again.
I feel that for $6.50 it is a very fair price, and because of the strong flavour, it is a very economical ingredient to add to your meals.
