This simply has to be the premiere sci-fi sampler out there! With stories by some of my favourite authors, both old, (Michael Swanwick, David Gerrold, Vonda N. McIntyre and Joe Haldeman) and new, (Neal Asher, Stephen Baxter and Liz Williams), and covering the whole gamut of sci-fi genres... there is something here for any sci-fi buff, honestly!

It was a real treat to flick through this tome of wonders... especially so as I don't often get big chunks of time to sit and plow through significant portions of a story, so to be able to get my 'fix' in short doses and still get the whole story each time was brilliant. I really do like compilations of short-stories during the busy patches of the year, when snatching 10-15 minutes at a stretch is the best I can manage.

Overall, this would still be well worth the price if it cost twice the current RRP, and if you get a chance to buy it, you should. Great as a taste-tester for those new to sci-fi, or to the seasoned reader wanting to check out the new talent at an affordable price, or for those who, like me, don't get the chance to soak up an entire 500-pager in less than 30 servings. Great to see, and I for one will be keenly looking forward to next year's edition, to see what new talent has sprung up in 2006 that I missed.
