I love the original movie and I love both this (SG-1) and the Atlantis spin-off series. And while the original pilot episode for this show was incredible at the time, now the remade version is even more incredible and as it says 'A whole new experience'.
If you have not seen any of the Stargate shows/movies (although I would imagine you have to be from some other universe if that was the case
) I would recommend seeing the original Stargate movie before starting in on this. While it is not nessecary to have seen the original Stargate movie it does help explain some of the back story behind the episode, but it's not essential to the enjoyment of the episode of the show in general.
The improved visuals in this bring it up to par with the current level of visuals in the current Stargate shows and movies and the revoicing by Christopher Judge of his character Teal'c gives us the Teal'c we all know rather than the chilled to the bone type performance he gave in that first episode.
Also of true delight is the voice commentary by Brad Wright and Richard Dean Anderson. This commentary lets us hear Richard's funny side which we could all do with more of.
This is a great DVD for the fans of the series, but is also a great way to introduce new viewers to the magic of Stargate.
