The Lego Batman Movie product reviews

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble " LEGO Batman " stars in his own big-screen adventure: The LEGO Batman Movie. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

I've watched all the Batman films, more because other people in my life have wanted to watch them and I've been in the same room as them, so I wan't looking forward to this much but my kids were rather excited (two into Lego and one hugely into superheroes) and so we did end up going and because they enjoyed it so much we then bought it on DVD when it came out. This is slightly an origin story as it shows a version of how Robin joins Batman and ending up with Batgirl, but beyond that Batman has been around and flying solo for many years.

What I really like about this film is how it is a Batman film which at the same times pokes so much fun at the Batman universe, from how old he is (and still looking good) to the various incarnations of Batman (a favourite part is when Alfred is listing all the on screen versions of Batman, my son will actually pause the film at this part and call on me to watch it). Later on in the film there is the introduction of multiple villains from a wide scope of TV and film media and it was a lot of fun spotting them. My kids attempted to see if they could beat me in a game of 'name that villain' but easily lost to me.

Early on in the film I was concerned how they might dumb down the new Commissioner Gordon but they promptly had her kicking butt and not taking any of Batmans crap, my favourite line being "If you call me Batgirl can I call you Batboy?". The main plot line isn't what entertains me in this film, I get my laughs and enjoyment out of the jokes about itself, references to past TV/film adaptations and bringing in other villains and a bevy of well known and lesser known Batman universe baddies. Good animation, a decent soundtrack (I love the final song, Friends are Family) and a good list of actors, this is a fun movie that plays to both the kids and adults well.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis

Product image for Back to the Future17 year old Marty McFly got home early last night. 30 years early.

Michael J. Fox stars as Marty McFly, a typical American teenager of the Eighties accidentally sent back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered DeLorean "time machine" invented by slightly mad scientist Christopher Lloyd.

During his often hysterical, always amazing trip back in time, Marty must make certain his teenage parents-to-be, Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson, meet and fall in love - so he can get back to the future.
