Crispy chicken is an all time favourite meal in our house and we like to try and use it in different ways, mostly so that my husband and I do not get bored with having the same things over and over! My three kids were super excited to see both this spice mix and also some wraps in our KIWIreviews package, so, being the smart mum I am (sometimes!) I decided that chicken wraps for dinner was a brilliant idea. Luckily I had already got chicken out for dinner, and managed to convince hubby to stop on the way home to get lettuce and tomato. Cucumber would have been great with these too, but currently they are way more pricey than I will pay! I substituted cucumber with grated carrot to add extra veggies into the meal too, and decided to top it with cheese, salsa and a little bit of sour cream.

Back to the chicken, I diced it simply, and popped it into a bowl with the seasoning. I did use the whole sachet but I am fairly sure I could have used half - three quarters of the sachet and it would have been just as tasty. I left the spice mixture on the chicken for about 30 minutes as was suggested, to help the spices soak in and flavour the chicken. I think you could probably use this on certain vegetables too, as the flavour is mild and not specifically suited to chicken. I then lightly fried the chicken and was delighted at the crispiness that happened. Like the pied piper, my children came out to investigate the delicious smell (tick one in my book) so I got them onto the prep of everything else, ready for the final ingredient of the cooked crispy chicken.

As we sat down to eat, everyone was exclaiming how nice it looked and smelled and was super enthusiastic to try it (tick two). As we compiled our wraps, the smiles grew and grew, and the kids loved it! I asked their opinion, which was all good, which with kids that are quite particular about what they eat, is great! I found the flavour to be quite mild, and my husband remarked the same, and added chilli flakes to his. However, this is really personal preference, so having a nice spice mix that can work for everyone is great.

I will be buying this again, and want to try it with a few other things, and in different ways. Huge thumbs up from me, thanks Farrah's!

This was a new product for me as I usually don't coat my chicken with a premixed combination, liking to pick my own spices. This really was a bit of an easy and cheap solution to thinking really hard about spice palettes. I love all the ingredients so that probably makes me quite biased as I would usually cook with most of these spices.

To apply the spice mix I diced a whole lot of chicken, well chicken enough for four (generous servings, two guests and ourselves). I didn't weigh the chicken but it seemed a good ratio (and we had leftovers in the end). So I added the mix to a cooking bag with the chicken and shook it madly - which seemed to work a treat. This meant I just smelled the mix at this stage. It didn't smell too strong.

I high fried this with just a little olive oil and some onions (like I usually would with chicken and spices and then threw in some chopped baby mushrooms. I loved the result and we added the chicken to wraps with other prepped veggies and it made a lovely dinner. In fact it was so nice and I was so keen to try it that I forgot to take a picture of the result. We used the last of the chicken in some lunch wraps the next day.

The taste was not as strong as I was expecting but that actually made it more appealing to a wider audience. It was not a spicy mix as much as a spice mix. It was herby and simple but the balance was great. I would definitely add this again to either wedges, kumara or fish but chicken did work really well.

The price seems about right for a quick and easy solution. Having one of these packets tucked in the pantry for when you need to jazz up an ordinary meal would be perfect. Farrah's yet again delivered a quality and appealing product for a fairly wide New Zealand audience, definitely worth a try.

Once upon a time, crispy chicken was a weekly meal in our household as it was quick and easy to make and serve with wedges, rice, or tortillas. After a while, the kids started to protest so we had a break. After a month of no crispy chicken, I was looking forward to trying Farrah's Crispy Chicken spice mix. The ingredients do not contain any nasties and with 75% of the ingredients made up of bread crumbs, I was pretty sure these would be as mild as the packet said. I decided to cut up two chicken breasts and then add the packet to the chicken and leave for 30 minutes before cooking. I sprayed some oil into the air fryer and cooked the chicken for 15 minutes, tossing halfway.

The chicken came out a lovely golden colour and was nice and crunchy. I did notice when I took the chicken out of the air fryer that there were a lot of crumbs at the bottom which suggests I might have used too much of the mix with the chicken. Next time, I might just add half the mix to see what happens. My daughters both ate it and said it was delicious and not too spicy. I could detect a mild paprika taste but the herb combination was great and gave a flavoursome, but not spicy taste, making it a big hit with the whole family. This is a versatile mix that could be easily added to other meat, or even veggies to spruce them up. I'm pleased to say that thanks to Farrah's Crispy Chicken Spice Mix, crispy chicken is back on the menu and I can't wait!

I arrived at my daughter's house with a packet of Crispy Chicken spice mix in my bag. Everyone was tired after a long and crazy week, and we were planning to go out again that evening, so dinner had to be quick. When she saw the packet, she was delighted as it gave her an idea of what she could make at short notice. She had some oven chips, avocado, and fresh chicken breasts; the avocado was very ripe so could be converted into guacamole while the rest cooked.

We decided to cut the chicken into cubes, roll them in the spice mix and then bake them so they would turn out crisp. Following the directions, we sprayed a little cooking oil on to the meat and then scattered the pack contents on top. Mixing with a spoon was clunky; finally, Miss Nine and I washed our hands again (just in case) and squished the meat cubes between our fingers. It was messy but highly effective; the coating was uniformly distributed, and the pieces were then spread on a non-stick oven tray.

We did not bother to coat the tray with more oil as we figured there would already be enough on the meat, and it turned out that we were right. The chicken pieces were perfectly cooked through within minutes, and came away from the tray without leaving any residue. It was a shame that they were not quite as crisp as we had expected; I had made them exactly the same way on a previous occasion and they had ended up with a very crunchy crust, so we blamed it on the oven which is a little temperamental. Next time we will turn the thermostat up higher - lesson learned.

Everyone enjoyed the meal, even Mr 11 who does not like his food too hot. The flavour was not too intense, and although there was some chilli present, it was very mild. He described it as "a bit tangy but not too hot" which is real praise from him. Miss Nine, who does not eat a lot of meat, really liked it and finished up everything on her plate. She mentioned that she could taste the paprika and that it was quite nice! Their mother and I liked the fact that this spice mix is relatively simple with spices that are familiar to the children, so that meant it was kid friendly. She even commented that the flavour was a bit similar to that used in a particular fast-food chain's chicken products.

Were we to include the prepared chicken in a tortilla or bun, the flavour would be even less intense - something that might make it palatable for younger children who might not enjoy even the small amounts of heat in the product. Mr 11 also thought he might like it sprinkled on baked potatoes. We noticed that he was dipping his chips into the saucy coating as he does not like guacamole; he has been known to smother his chips in tomato sauce, so this was a new and more sophisticated departure for him. I think this is one product their mother will be buying again.
