After the disastrous food storm in the first film, Flint and his friends are forced to leave the town. Flint accepts the invitation from his idol Chester V to join The Live Corp Company, which has been tasked to clean the island, and where the best inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind. When Flint discovers that his machine still operates and now creates mutant food beasts like living pickles, hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees and apple pie-thons, he and his friends must return to save the world.

When I heard this sequel coming out I was excited, but then when I saw the trailer featuring some gorgeous scenery and some puns I knew this was a must watch and so for a treat for the kids we got takeaways and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 out.
The movie starts off slow with a re-cap of the previous movie, with a tiny bit more added in like confirming that Flint was bullied as a child and revealing who his childhood hero was, Chester V. When Chester V turns up sending the townsfolk on their way and Flint a job we discover all isn't as it seems. The first half of the movie takes place over six months, but just feels a bit too slow, though I love the 'Party in a Box', that would be neat. Once they all get to the island things really set off.
I LOVE the names of some of the new species we discover such as Cheese Spider, Shrimpanzee, Hippotatoes, Melonphant, Subwhale, Banana Ostriches, Flamangos and Tacodiles to name some. There are also puns abound like when Flint screams "There's a leek in the boat!" and a leek screams back at hime. Moments like that and some gorgeous scenes (the flamangos scene) make up for the slow start and once you get going it is lots of fun, though the movie seemed a little confused with its overall aim.
If you enjoyed the first then you will certainly enjoy this one as well and the kids loved it.
