Time Vandals is an interesting book. Its science fiction for kids, but its very entertaining even as an adult. We meet the two main characters immediately. There is action straight away with Mei which was like reading a matrix type fight. Then we met Jack, and his action is more slapstick but still amusing and engaging to read.
But something is a bit off with the characters. Despite the settings for both of them, they are speaking French?! This is mostly dealt with by putting all but a few of their words in English. I had to wiki some of the words used, to understand but only because I was curious. You could easily pick up what most of them meant in the context of what was happening.
I really liked the plot. The use of real world science experimentation, and making that cause something crazy happen. The whole thing is dealt with so well and in a fun way. It does get a little weird, but I just went with it. It reminded me of the Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop a bit, with its strange government agents.
This reminded me of the TV series Sliders as well. That made me like the book even more. Its a bit on the pricey side, but it is a long book for the age group as well.
