Even though I have a laptop with a pretty small harddrive in it I am not really a fan of external hard drives ever since I shelled out some serious coin for one and it got trashed by a faulty power adaptor. I first off turned this down on that basis, until the nice guy from Kr told me how this one doesn't actually need a power supply. It runs off the usb power system. If you have a hi-power usb2 you simply plug it in and away it goes. Lo-power or usb1.1 and you plug in the second plug on the cable and you have enough power to drive it just fine. Great stuff by me so I thought I would give it a grudging go.
I was given the 120gb version which is great for me as I only have a 60gb hard drive in the lappy and its usually around 2/3rds full meaning if I was to back up the entire machine I would still have over 70gb to fill up with extra stuff like movies, music and images from my favourite website, deviantART.com. Even though this isnt the biggest capacity model its still big enough to do a great job.
All in all, even if you dont really need heaps of extra storage, the price is so cheap these days that having a bit extra on hand never hurts. You never know when it will come in handy and its better to have the space but not need it than need it but not have it available. This drive is compact, stylish (for those that value looks as well as function), quiet and easy to carry. It is also fairly sturdy as proven by the fact that mine is still working fine after taking a hefty knock when the laptop bag fell off the bench and landed storage-pocket side down on the hard lino floor. Most excellent construction and design folks.
