Cook Street Chinese TakeawaysProduct reviews...
I was so looking forward to reviewing this pie and after spending 45 minutes cooking it (as I was doing it from frozen), I was certainly ready for it! The packet does not recommend microwaving these pies at all, and doesn't even give instructions for that option. Personally I would microwave anyway, if I really need a pie fix at work or in a hurry, but not today.
Anyway the oven did a beautiful job and the pastry was lovely and crisp and flaky and the perfect yellowy brown. My husband and I shared this pie, although we could definitely have had a whole one to ourselves! I have to say it was a decent size for a single pie though.
The flavour of this pie was delicious! There was something red and jelly-like in the centre of the pie - maybe part of the tomato pesto? It tasted good anyway. The pie was quite cheesy too - perfect with the bacon, eggs and tomato - yum! I think it was the cheese that left a greasy feeling in the mouth afterwards though - something I haven't noticed with their other pies. It was a rather delicious greasiness though! The bacon was really good and plentiful too!
I'd happily buy more of these pies - it's probably the best store bought bacon and egg pie I've ever eaten!
I LOVE B'n'E pies... This one is no exception.
The fillings and flavourings are great and the pastry has just the consistency without being too crumbly.
I have tried many other B'n'E pies, but this is one I have actively gone LOOKING for in shops, a big thing for me.
All-in-all, a wonderful blend of bacon, eggs and pastry. Well done Maketu Pies.
Once again, a fine pie from the new masters of party. As every kiwi knows, a good B'n'E pie is a pretty subjective matter. After all, does it need onions, or do you prefer it without. Tomato or not? And how about mixed veges?
Well, this pie was brilliant. It had a great mix of all the right stuff, and the bacon was chunky, giving a satisfying body of pie to chew on. I hate pies that seem to be filled with puree... gimme a chunky pie any day!
The best recomendation I can give is... GO BUY ONE! If you like B'n'E pies, you'll be sure of enjoying these ones. 'Nuff said really.
