Honeycombs

Price : $35.00

Available : November 2017

The game of honeycombs comes with fifty-two hexagon shaped plastic tiles. Each tile has six symbols on it and no tiles are the same. The object of honeycombs is to connect your tiles together by matching their symbols. The more matches you make the more points you will earn. The honeybee is wild and can be matched with any symbol. Each tile has the potential of being matched on all six sides. Honeycombs has three unique ways to play, each varying in speed and competitiveness. Choose the game version that's right for you!

Honeycombs is one of those games which could end up being a fast and short game, or one that seems to take forever and never end, it really is all going to depend upon who you play with. I've played this now, several times with my three children and depending on their mood can end up finishing very quickly or taking a decent amount of time. When a friend and I play, we take our time, studying every single tile that we have in an effort to make the most points possible out of our placement. The tiles have withstood rattling about with each other well. The tiles are quite hefty for such a small game, so I was concerned about the cloth bag that they come in, but it has stood the test of time really well and hasn't needed any fixing yet.

The game mechanics are fairly simple, the most basic move to match one symbol on your tile to one that is one the table. However, you do have the potential to match up several sides at once, and yes, it is possible to match every single side. There are also extra symbols which make one side wild, doubles your score, reverses play or my 9 year olds favourite symbol, steal another players turn (providing you can match that tile of course). The game does also come with two other sets of rules, one we have never bothered with, the other has all players getting an equal number of tiles and you need to be the first to match them all (but can't be one continuous line). My main issue with this game is that the rules were just on a tag, hanging off the bag, so easy to loose or damage.
