Review #21042 - Dated: 22nd of September, 2019 Author: mizim |
I've watched a few superhero films and TV series growing up, I've enjoyed the odd one or two but I've never gotten caught up enough with them to be excited when a new film is announced (I leave that to Mr11), however this film proved to be the exception to the norm, as I watched the trailers and began to hear good things about the film. I ended up going and seeing this on the big screen with my then 10, 9 & 7 year olds, because I knew they were interested and I'm also determined they get just as much exposure to strong, female leads. Going into this I knew a little of the history of the character but I never had gotten into the comics or TV series.
I enjoyed having the background to Diana growing up with the Amazons, right from the start we get fight scenes (whilst she's training) and then of course, the big fight scene that starts her leaving home, in motion. I felt that Gadot did an excellent job in her portrayal of Wonder Woman, the rest did their roles well but to me were outshone and could have easily been replaced with other actors. There are a few moments of humour in the film but plenty of hard hitting moments, I thought it was done well with one of the ragtag team with PTSD that was ongoing and couldn't be sorted because of the situations they were in.
The special effects were well done, it all looked realistic and I love that they went to far as to have Diana's legs ripple as she would land on the ground. My three kids all thoroughly enjoyed it and knew that I enjoyed it so much that they bought it for me for my birthday. Whilst it irritated me that the loss of someone important to Diana gave her the final motivation to not give up, I did enjoy the film as a whole and I'm looking forward to the next one.
