I was thrilled to see this Ant Man chapter book in the review rounds this time around. My husband and eldest daughter share a love for all things Marvel. They are currently watching a lot of Spiderman, and my husband had been thinking of taking her to see Ant Man when it comes out here in the movie theatres. So when I got this book, I was keen to read it to her to give her some background to the character.

This book is a stand alone storyline about a zombie virus that threatens New York. It has a lot of your familiar Marvel Avengers heroes in it. My daughter was really thrilled because Iron Man and Hulk are some of her favourites and they feature a lot in here. I was happy to see Black Widow too, as a mum to girls I want them to see that women can be super too.

Ant Man is shown to be a intelligent guy who has a lot to offer in emergency situations, but who also lacks confidence around the other Avengers. Through the book and his relationships he is able to learn more about himself. He is empowered to be himself and to let his talents shine. He also helps the other heroes and earns their respect.

We read about two or three chapters a night. As the story progressed, I did worry a couple of times that it was getting a bit scary. While I knew that things would probably work out, even down to the wire things looked to be going from bad to worse. The zombies were a bit scary and a few of the heroes have some very hairy moments. I asked my daughter a couple of times if she would rather I stop reading, but she was fine.

When I finished the book, she was quite sad and asked if I had anything else with Ant Man in them. She saw a poster for the movie the other day while at the movie theatre and she was pretty excited. She can not wait to see it with her dad. I think if you have a Marvel fan at home, this book could be a goer. I do think that sensitive kids will not deal as well with the zombies though, so be warned there.
