Review #11091 - Dated: 30th of April, 2014 Author: Laugan |
Holy Smoke is a local Christchurch smoke house that just happens to be within walking distance from my house. I'm not usually a fan of smoked cheeses, probably because the ones I've tried are fake smoked flavour instead of actually being smoked, however when my daughter requested I buy some on my regular trip to Holy Smoke I couldn't turn her down, it was her birthday after all.
To start off with we just tried small slices and the taste was amazing, the aged cheddar was slightly sharp and the manuka smoke was unmistakable and very delicious.
I then went and got some salted crackers and the flavours came to life, salami added and it was divine. The following day we had scrambled eggs for lunch so I used the micro plane grater to add some on top, the now subtle smoky flavour was an excellent addition to a rather plain lunch. I'm sure there's many other ways this lovely cheese could be enjoyed but there's not much left now!
If you're a cheese fan give this a go, don't worry if you don't live in Christchurch, they do sell through the Holy Smoke website and while you're there give some of their other products a go, you won't be disappointed.
