Review #10557 - Dated: 10th of February, 2014 Author: mizim |
The second season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended with a foreboding message from Sisko about how any war with The Dominion would begin right there at the station and year three starts off with quite a bang as he returns to the station with a "little surprise for The Dominion" whilst Odo learns where he came from.
In this season we are introduced to the Defiant, a ship built to fight and defeat The Borg but now also gives us a few more adventures off the space station. A big part of the season is Odo's journeys to the Gamma Quadrant and discovers that his people are actually "The Founders" and the ones leading The Dominion - this first episode sets up not only season three but the next four seasons in the series! A very well done episode is "Second Skin" where Kira wakes up one day as a Cardassian, which for her is a huge deal considering her hate of the cardassians.
There is a lot in this season that sets up the future for the Federation and the oncoming war with the Dominion but we still manage to have enough episodes that don't focus on the Dominion such as when the crew are trapped on a shut down Deep Space 9 and another journey to the alternate universe first set up in 'Mirror, Mirror' from the Original Series. I wasn't too bothered with the special features in this collection, but still good if you want trivia.
It's a very well done season and really sets the scene for the future of the show.
