Alice and the Airy Fairy has a very eye catching cover but I think that having it all bright pink is a little bit too glaring. This is a book that both my son and my daughter would enjoy I putting the dominant colour as pink, it is aiming the book just at girls, when my son likes fairies too. The illustrations are nice and simple yet look good. I loved that we get to see a picture of both Mary's painting and Bonnie's painting. I especially loved that there was a picture of the 'How to Make A Fairy Wand' with readable instructions, it will be a fun thing to make with my children and they'll have great fun hunting for the perfect branch on the ground. Another fun little thing with the book is that there are two little pop out rockets that combine to make a 3D rocket. The storyline is fun. Young Alice has her Aunt move in with the family and after misunderstanding some of what he parents are talking about she comes to believe that her Aunt is a real fairy. Alice enlists a friends help to try and help her Aunt, and then when her sisters paintings accidentally get hung up instead of her Aunts at an art gallery what will Alice do to fix things? A fun little book that my 5 year old and 4 year old enjoyed being read. |

My almost Miss Seven gets first dibs on all the chapter books in our house though I took one look at this and thought my Miss Five would love it! The first thing I loved about this book is that it is all glossy, pages and picture's alike. The pages feel lovely to turn and it feels like a good quality book. The text is clear and double spaced so very easy for the age seven plus reader to read alone or to read with a younger child together. This is a chapter book though each chapter is only a few pages long. I love that each chapter number is decorated so you want to get to the next chapter to see what the next decoration will be! All the page numbers are in little rockets as well. Well that's the visuals done on to the story. I quite enjoyed this book as its exactly the sort of imagination and misunderstandings young children have when things aren't explained to them. So Alice and her family were off to visit mums cousin Mary who is a bit "Airy Fairy". A very humorous story evolves as Alice tries to figure out why Mary doesn't seem to be a magical fairy interwoven with the everyday exploits of her little baby sister Bonnie. It's a very cute story and my little misses liked it. We are overrun in our house with Rainbow Magic books at the moment but I must say I enjoyed this story far more and will probably try to steer my girls towards this series. I look forward to reading more in the series and can definitely recommend this to any early to middle readers who have a bit of imagination and like fairy's. |
