Review #5261 - Dated: 12th of January, 2012 Author: kymmage |
The Green Creativity Trash Robot kit is a lot of fun. The kit suggests it is best for children over 5, and not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts. My daughter is 4 months off 5, but I figured why not give it a go. I grabbed a can of drink, cleaned it out and we were ready to go.
The box for this kit is so cute; I love the illustrations which show you basically what you could make. The box itself is not huge, and could easily be posted around the countryside, which makes it a suitable for a gift. I could see my niece enjoying this, a lot.
We opened the box after admiring the robot illustrations. I was impressed that everything was neatly packaged in a baggie. We got into that and my daughter ohhed and ahhed over the various brightly coloured stickers. She could not wait to start! I stopped to read the instructions, and found the right way to put together the robot under-carriage thing. It was very easy. I put one together and my daughter almost got hers together as well, by following my lead. There was only one mistake on hers which was an amazing effort and shows how user-friendly the kit is.
Once the carriage was together, we worked out how to attach the can to the carriage and next came the decorating. The stickers are great, really sticky and easy to use. My daughter went a little nuts with it, but the kit makes two robots and the sticker set is easily enough to make more than two robots, so I just let her go for it!
I liked that there was instructions on how to make the arms (made out of newspaper or magazine). But I thought that the strips of card could have just been included, and there was no adhesive for this included either. Still the instructions were easy to follow, the robot went together really well and my daughter was absolutely stoked with the overall activity and outcome - a cool robot to play with that she made (mostly) by herself.
I'm always looking for kits like this for gifts to go to various friends and family's children. They are great to keep them busy, especially during school holidays. This activity took us about 30 mins, but would have been much longer if we had more cans to decorate. The other thing is, once you have made your robots, your imagination is the only limit - we can now make art about the robots, stories, etc. I would definitely purchase a kit like this in future as a gift, seeing that my own daughter loved it so much.
