Personally Just a Junk Scam ... ....I informed this provider that one of their website was a scamming site stealing money from Kiwis....and they said that they couldnt do anything. Shit people, how can you expect anything else from those sore of people? |

This is a real mixed bag site... Firstly, you have the availability of hosting plans as low as $2.95 per month for the really basic plans, right up to high-end commercial-grade co-location plans... so why the low score? It comes down to service... that all-important factor so vital to today's businesses... even the big-boys have clicked that treating customers like lepers doesn't pay off in the long run. I recently took advantage of a great deal they were offering, to host small websites free of charge for members of a select mailing list. The site I had in mind was small, at a touch ofer 1mb, generating less than 20mb of traffic per month, and requiring only basic PHP support and access to an outbound mail command to drive the 'contact us' page. After hosting the site for about a month, their FreeB servers got hacked and trashed, which caused their servers to fall over and be inoperable for 2 weeks. These things happen, it's part of the day-to-day risks of running a website, so I wasn't worried... and I left them to do their repair work in peace. Sure enough, after 2 weeks the site was showing again, though all the updates I had uploaded just prior to the crash were gone, with the site reverting back to a state a week before the crash. Again, par for the course, nothing to complain about, and a few minutes of uploading new files fixed that problem. A quick test of the site proved it was up to date again, displaying properly, and NOT sending outbound emails any more! Hang on... it used to send emails... but there were no notices to say that the SMTP (mail system) had been disabled for free sites... so a quick phonecall to their 0800 number to find out whether this was a problem or a new rule... only to find myself leaving a message on their answering service. "Please call me to explain, and discuss upgrading to a paying account..." No answer for 2 days. Ring again, same deal, same message left on answerphone. No reply after 2 more days. Ring again, and send an email... No reply after a further 3 days. Post a message on the mailing list asking for options for a new hosting service... Suddenly, a reply from the boss of HostingDirect... "Since you aren't happy, we've kicked you off our network." Hardly a professional approach to a client who is annoyed that they claim a "...6 hour response time..." and offer a "...7 days response time if you look like you aren't happy..." With affliations to a national organisation of web designers, this is hardly a very good approach to dealing with customers who wish to upgrade and give them more of our money... Overall... I was really offended by the treatment. There is no excuse for reacting to a customer's request for service by tossing your toys and throwing them out the door. Though this company has some excellent features on offer at stunning prices, don't expect to get anything in the way of customer service unless you are already handing over cash... I will never discover if they treat paying customers any better... since I will be happily hosting all of my client websites elsewhere. This was a taste-test that they failed miserably. |

I agree They also didn't reply to my email, and they had some form of server meltdown and lost my website, and they didn't have any backup to restore it with. They claim to be the cheapest, and they may be but there is a cost of using a cheap host, as I found out. rvnd My site has had numerous problems with HD. I agree that service (paid) is really poor. Hope this review helps someone. andrew Hosting Direct has actually been great, I noticed your reviews are based on old dates, I assume they were in startup mode then as they just opened around that date, the hosting now is world class, I would not move anywhere, and they actually answer the phone! Richard I have found that they have a lot of downtime, yet advertise that they've had none - The nameservers crash for hours at a time every few weeks. They're good for non-critical low cost applications, but if downtime of at between 8 and 24 hours per month matter, stay away Damon I have a small VPS with them and they have been great James I signed up for an account with Hosting Direct because of the price, however quickly found that the service offered was very unreliable and the quality of the support was horrendous. I would not recommend Hosting Direct for anything other than the most basic, unimportant web sites. Lilibeth Pene Hosting Direct has been great value for money, I really like the service, I have been with them for over 12 months with no problems at all. Never answer phones or support tickets! I submitted a support ticket to them 2 days ago saying i have found a security flaw and could get into the root of there server really simply...(wtf?).. and they still havnt replied. LOL. NT3Resting Ill help shed a little light on this company as I have been with them for several years now. I think for the most part they try there best to provide the best services they can for the best price ... after using another company prior to HD I have been relatively happy with their services. However for a Webdeveloper the system itself will really test your skills.This is due to the nature of the DA control panel. Specifically when it comes to setting up CMS/BB/Other such systems you will run into a few problems to say the least. on the overall though I am relatively happy. They are a small group of guys from what i can tell and that will explain why the support may not be as good as it could be. Let them get their foundations sorted and Iam sure that in time they will expand these services. Being a one man band myself , I dread the day my business gets to the point where Id need to spend 90% of my time replying to problems and 10% fixing them. of course this is when you look at hiring others to do the support for you. ) optrexnz I hosted with this company for over 12 months. Their support was dreadful and in the end I had technicians telling me blatant lies about availability. When I provided proof of outage I heard nothing back. Later I lodged a critical support call about a database and it remained unacknowledged for 36 hours. At this point I pulled the plug and picked another provider. When I put in a cancellation request to end with my next billing cycle (a week later) they cancelled me immediately. |
