Review #1770 - Dated: 12th of February, 2007 Author: Tucker |
Ever since I put my aside my pointless objections to 'police dramas' and gave CSI and it's cousin-show NCIS a go, I have found myself to be quite taken by the whole forensic science / investigative drama genre... and this is a great member of the line-up.
It really has twists that none of the others carry, such as characters with social disorders caused by the work, or Aspergers Syndrome, or just plain stick-up-butt syndrome... the kinds of things we have to cope with in the real workplace at times. And what a workplace... talk about '...better workplace stories...'
The cast are perfect, with the right look, the right feel, and a spot-on attitude to match. The way they interact is so smooth, it is very easy to suspend your disbelief and become immersed in the stories. I especially love some of the 'insider jokes' that pop up... for example David Boreanaz, the actor who plays Special Agent Seeley Booth in this show, also plays as Angelis in the fantasy series Angel... in that series he is a vampire with a soul, trying to find redemption... in this series he is a devout believer in God, seeking to "...do the right thing, to make [he] gets into Heaven..."
Overall, I love this series... it really has a lot of potential, even if it does take a strong stomach to get through some episodes. I also love the way there is a number of overall plots threading through the shows, making it more than a modernised version of the old "Quincy, M.D." series from a bygone era, where every episode stood on it's own. So, if you like the darker side of criminal investigation, this is one you shouldn't miss.
