'Younger brother' of the 250Hz Pro model, this superlative gyro offers exactly the same high speed performance but ships without the digital speed meter which can be added at a later stage when required. The same thorough workout on your arms and wrists therefore and at a very affordable price! Website: www.powerballsnz.com |

In line with the fitness kick that got started with the Elite Fitness Challenge I did a while back, I bought a cheap little gyroscopic resistance ball off an internet auction site. I was quite disappointed with the results I got, and wrote to the retailers who explained that it was indeed a basic unit and that they were put up for sale at a heavily discounted price in order to clear out stock. In an effort to please the customer, me, they kindly agreed to send a more advanced unit and let us put it through it's paces and review it. What a difference!!! After seeing the truely scary 43-second movie of 'Akis', possibly the world's most power user of powerballs (the ball is literally thrying to throw him around, it's exerting that much gyro force!) I was hoping this unit wasn't the top-line model... thankfully it's not. There are more advanced, powerful unit for the serious user. I found that once I developed the right rhythm and cyclic rotational speed, the unit powered up to a solid whine of power and my arm was feeling the resistance generated by the gyroscopic inner core spinning. It wasn't long before my wrist was feeling the burn and I had to stop, but over time I have managed to stretch the limit out so that I get a good workout without pain. The unit seems to be well constructed, solid and sealed so that it won't fly apart at extreme speeds, and with a good high-friction rubber gripping band. If used properly should provide the sensible user with an excellent workout. Cheaper than small weights, and with the advantage of being user-configurable to give a weak, moderate or strong workout. Overall... not entirely my first choice of fitness equipment, but at this price, let's face it, it's worth a try. Considering what you're going to be paying for other equipment that could do the job for you, this is a great option to explore that could potentially save you a serious packet of hard-earned credit. |
