Savoury snacks are a popular choice for me and my children alike while we are happy enough to eat sweet snacks we would normally opt for a savoury one instead. I was excited to receive two variants of these rice sticks as we do enjoy rice based snacks like rice crackers and rice cakes we have tried in the past. I do myself quite like the taste of tumeric and use it in a few different ways but I wasn't sure my children would feel the same way as tumeric does have quite a strong flavour.

I could smell tumeric when I opened the packet but it wasn't overpowering. On trying the rice sticks I must admit I didn't really taste the tumeric however they had a very mild flavour and in my opinion were rather sweet I felt I could taste a bit of honey rather than the savoury tumeric taste I was expecting. It wasn't a terrible taste but mixed with the airy texture of the rice stick it just didn't feel quite right in my mouth and I wasn't sure I enjoyed them. I had to have a few more to make up my mind but after eating 4-5 sticks I found that I just couldn't eat anymore.

I like the texture and it does remind me of other rice based snacks just the flavour didn't work for me in this instance. Difficult to pin point exactly what flavour I did not like as I said I couldn't really taste tumeric and found a sweet taste instead. Both of my children tried the sticks and also said they didn't really taste like anything. I think the product could work but some improvements to the flavouring would be quite good as they don't have much flavour.

My household was lucky enough to receive three different types of me:real Rice Sticks to try, and as they were not something I had heard of or seen before I was excited to try and review them.

I am much more of a savoury snack girl, (except for chocolate!) and have been using turmeric in a few of my holistic type remedies for a number of years so I was naturally curious as to what these would taste like and the amount of turmeric actually in them. The turmeric in these is 3% - and the third listed ingredient, so although not high, will give you a little extra.

The packaging of the rice sticks is really good - simple and uncluttered, showing a picture of the rice sticks, and the flavour with each flavour being a different colour. This makes them easy to differentiate between which is very helpful. The packet is opaque with a resealable strip to keep in the freshness. Although the packet has a tear strip - this was not the easiest to open and required scissors in the end.

Opening the package you did get a faint smell of turmeric - not overpowering, but nice. The rice sticks are of varying sizes and shapes, and are light and airy due to being air fried - definitely a healthier option. Popping a couple into my mouth I noticed the lack of strong flavouring which was a little disappointing as the colour is quite vibrant. The sticks sort of dissolve in your mouth meaning they do not feel heavy to eat. It would be great to see more flavour-some rice sticks in the future!

I would probably at this stage not purchase this flavour - although the rice sticks are different and healthier then a lot of snacks, my children are unlikely to be interested in them. I do recommend these as a nice light and crunchy snack, that with a dip of hummus or similar - would be delicious.

As someone who really enjoys eating savoury snacks over sweet, the sound of the rice sticks really appealed to me as I love rice and also rice crackers. When I requested to try out the Turmeric variety I honestly wasn't sure what to expect as Turmeric isn't something I remember ever trying, but it is something which I have heard a lot about in regards to it's health benefits, however I was sure willing to give it a go, as was Miss 4, my partner however wasn't so keen.

I love the packaging of this particular product, it is basic enough but would be something that would stand out well on a supermarket shelf with it's bold orange label and attractive image on the front. What I also really liked about this was the fact that you could see through the frosted plastic bag and see the actual product you are getting, the sticks looked of a nice orange colour but they sure looked rather interesting at the same time. The bag is resealable which is something that I always like when buying products, and there is a little rip in the top of the packaging for opening but I found that this was a lot easier to do with scissors!

Opening the product for the first time I was a little put off by the smell of the product (obviously the Turmeric) as to me it was a smell I had not before encountered and if I must be honest I felt that it smelt a little bit like plastic. However putting this thought of mine aside I decided to try one of the rice sticks and was happy to find that they were infact pleasant enough to eat with the Turmeric flavouring not to strong at all, they kind of reminded me of the texture of another rice snack product I often buy for Miss 4, and she agreed that this is exactly what they were like just that they were smaller in size and didn't have much taste to them.

With the lack of taste being a factor here for us both we decided that they would be worth trying out with some dips. We went to the kitchen together and got 2 little bowls, in one of the bowls we dished up some Kiwi onion dip that we had made up the night before and in the other we put some guacamole, we were both pleased to find that these made the rice sticks very yummy and added a nice lot of flavour, to a product otherwise a bit bland on their own.

As Miss 4 is starting school in the next couple of months we have been talking a lot about healthy snacks for her lunch box, and she has said these are something she would love to take to school (with some dips of course), I am very well aware that schools are very health conscious these days so believe these would be an ideal choice for her being made from brown rice and also as they are low in sugar. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for these in the future.

I've never had something before that was turmeric flavoured, but I've had turmeric plenty of times before in numerous dishes so I was interested to see how it might taste as the main flavour. I like that the packet is resealable but the next time I would use scissors instead of tearing at the plastic as it ended up very uneven and jagged in a couple of spots, so scissors were needed in the end anyway. My kids were eager to try this out, hoping that it would be something yummy however all three were adamant in their dislike of the rice sticks and all declared they didn't want anymore at all.

I brought this out to shared with my mum, we both just wanted something light and snacky after a very big birthday lunch with the family. I tried this on its own but wasn't a big fan of it, it tasted good enough, no hugely strong flavours but not nice enough for me to really want to eat more, which my mother was in agreement with. So I grabbed some babaganoush hummus to try dipping these into. With a nice chunk of the hummus on a rice stick, it was a delicious snack and we happily ate the rest of the packet.

While this was nice with hummus, I thought it a shame that it was only delicious with the hummus which means I wouldn't buy it again.

Turmeric sounded like a strange flavour to add to a snack product. It is a mild flavour that I usually think of as being an ingredient in a spice mix, there to add colour and a bit of depth rather than a strong presence. So I bit into the first one with no expectations - I thought they would be bland and quite dull. My friends had exactly the same thoughts; in fact, one of them said she did not fancy the idea and might just pass!

Well, there is always a first time. These rice sticks were not just palatable. They were seriously delicious, and if I had not already arranged to share them, I could have easily finished the entire packet on my own. A totally new taste sensation which I - and my two friends, not just the reluctant taster - will actively seek out because I think all three of us just might become addicted to them if we are not careful. They are full of flavour, subtle, slightly sweet and slightly spicy, crisp but without the greasy aftertaste that you usually get with snacks of this type.

Having sampled several pieces on their own, we put the rest into a bowl and added two chunky dips, one a lightly curried egg and parsley mix, the other a mild guacamole with a few white beans added. The intention was to dip the rice crisps into them and use them as an hors d'oeuvre. The taste combinations were perfect, but as the crisps are quite thick, I will reduce the dips to a smoother mixture next time so that they stick better. Having tried them like this, I would also like to serve them with the traditional kiwi onion and reduced cream dip on another occasion as I think this combination would be even better. That is, if the crisps actually make it to the plate and don't all get eaten on the way!

All three of us tried to find something negative to add about this product, but we could not think of anything. The main ingredient is brown rice which also means that there is more fibre than you would normally expect in a snack food like this, and that contributes to the richness of the flavour. They are low fat, low sugar, made from quality ingredients, free of gratuitous additives, and reasonably priced. What more could you ask from a snack food?
