The Help product reviews

"The Help" features three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960's, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.

From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times. "The Help" is a provocative and inspiring look at what happens when a southern town's unspoken code of rules and behaviour is shattered by three courageous women who strike up an unlikely friendship.

I read the book so of course the movie was a must!!! The movie for once was just as good as if not better than the book! This is not something I will often say as I usually find books are far more detailed than the movie was this was spot on.

The actors played their parts perfectly, their characters really come into their own as the movie goes on. It is funny, heart breaking and eye opening.Although there is humor throughout it does not take away from the serious issue being brought to life which was very well done. I love a movie that can follow a serious story line while adding humor and keeping the viewer guessing what is going to happen next. You feel for each maid and her own heart break.

Skeeter gets the ball rolling for the maids to tell their stories and it is sad to look back upon how people were treated. She is very right in what she says, her beliefs and has a good set of morals something I feel her mother lacks. Quite often people from money can not see below that and this film really does show this as well as facing race issues.

A funny and entertaining movie that I could watch over and over!

Based upon the trailers I wouldn't have watched this but I started to hear good things about it and so hired this on DVD.

The acting in this is really well done, everyone does a perfect job portraying their characters and there is so much character growth in this film, it';s wonderful. The Help is full of sad moments, moving moments and lots of laughs, the good thing is that the humour doesn't soften the ignorance or abuse, it just make the film infinitely more watch able and entertaining.

The story takes off when Skeeter (Emma Stone) graduates from Ole Miss and returns home and takes a job at the local newspaper writing the cleaning column (the only position they would give her). Skeeter begins to get help from a friends maid and discovers the chance of a much better story, the point of view of the maids. As expected, the maids are hesitant, but Aibileen (Viola Davis) does relent and soon enough more join in, affecting everyone in the small town. There are so many fantastic details to the film.

If you are seeking a very entertaining movie that uses humour to tell a story and send a message, then this one's for you.
