When I went to get my Fitbit Flex (wristband to track walking steps and sleep patterns), I decided that I might as well go the whole hog and get the Aria so I could track my weight. It was a little scary, the thought of attempting to get fitter and loose some weight and I was a bit worried about how accurate and honest the scales would be to me.

The Aria tracks weight and also how much fat you have in comparison to the rest of your body. It syncs via wifi with the rest of your data to an online account. It appears as a graph and also tells you how much you have gone up or down by (in weight, body fat % and BMI). It also reminds you how much you have got to go to your target weight - I like this as it doesn't seem so bad when that number keeps going down (even by a tiny bit!). On the dashboard of the online account, you can have a tile visible that shows your weight progress if you wish (along with tiles to show how much water you have had, how many steps you have done etc). The data about weight is automatically set to not share with "friends" that you have linked to within the Fitbit community. Settings can be changed to allow sharing of some data e.g. badges earned for weight loss / getting to your target etc. .

The initial setup seemed a bit strange. I am not sure if I went through it the wrong way or if it was just strange! The process involved quite a few times taking out the batteries and I seemed to get myself in a bit of cycle having to repeat it many times. When I got myself set up, I did my husband's set up. This part was much easier. However, when I got back on the scales, it didn't recognise me and told me I was a guest. I found that I had to go through my husband's online account and request that I join the scales. A little confusion at the beginning - but I am still not sure if is was me causing the confusion or the setup itself!! I am the sort that jumps into this sort of thing and read the instructions only if I need to. I usually get it right!

When you set it up, you use your initials so it can identify each person. The Aria can recognise up to eight people. My sister can't wait to come over to our place to begin to track her progress. The cost of the scales makes it sensible to share them with lots of family and friends. It knows who is on the scales by the weight / BMI etc that it records. If there are two people of similar stats, it will ask you to confirm the initials of the person who is on the scales. Pretty smart I think!

The Aria is an attractive slim scale and comes in black or white. I didn't know at the time I purchased that I had a choice but I am very happy with the black one that I got.

Now that I have gotten used to the Aria, I love it. It shows me that the work I have been doing with regards to walking, drinking lots of water and cutting out some of the rubbish has been working. Even on days when my weight has gone up again, my body fat has gone down. Normal scales don't give that sort of feedback and can easily make you feel disheartened. I also love the integrated nature of the Fitbit products and I look forward to them having a positive impact on my health.
