Up until now, I have been repeatedly borrowing "The Knitter's Bible" by Claire Crompton" from the library while teaching myself to knit, which had been one of the best, most easy-to-follow books I'd come across for knitting, until I found "Teach Yourself Visually - Knitting". This fantastic book is colour-coded to make it extremely easy to find what you're looking for, and is incredibly detailed with everything from: the very basics (knit/purl stitch, cast on/off, increase/decrease etc) to the more advanced lace, fancy edgings, cables, etc, and even some fun, basic patterns to try out your new skills.
Teach Yourself Visually - Knitting will show you the tools to knit whatever you want (whether you want plain or patterned, single or multi coloured), felt it, decorate it with tassles, a fringe, beads or fancy edgings, add buttons or zips, line a knitted bag, make tidy seams, and even a section on how to modify patterns to create more unique patterns to match your personal preferences. Each technique/stitch is accompanied by several pictures and step-by-step instructions which are reasonably easy to follow (as was proven by my 9 yr old son who is starting to learn to knit, and found this book rather helpful with learning the basics), plus they are in full colour, which definitely helps when it comes to showing techniques like picking up stitches, seaming, binding off etc, where they make it easier to see by using contrasting coloured yarn to demonstrate. It doesn't matter if you prefer knitting with the "English" or the "Continental" method (or a combination of both) either, as both are shown and explained in this great book.
Price-wise, I consider it pretty good value for money, especially when you realise just how much information has been packed in there, but maybe a wee bit on the high side for my liking.
Whether you're new to knitting, or even an experienced knitting, no matter what age, "Teach Yourself Visually - Knitting" is a book you should keep at your side whenever you pick up a pair of knitting needles, and is one that would make for a fantastic gift for anyone you know considering trying to learn to knit.
Now maybe I can let someone else borrow the library's copy of "The Knitter's Bible"!! LOL!

Product reviews for listing 9010: Quarantine
Written by Philippa Werry

Product image for Quarantine"Being in quarantine sounds like being in prison," I said, shivering.
Lily nodded. "A bit like that. Except that the prison is your own home."
