A family wedding in Wellington called for a motel stay for a number of us travelling down from Palmerston North.

West Plaza Hotel caught my eye as it was very central, and a very reasonable rate of $120 for a standard room (queen bed) - including breakfast the next morning. A number of rooms were booked by a lovely lady on the telephone, and we were all set to check in the following Saturday.

The reception area was very nice indeed, and there was a large bar and lounge with big screen television off to the side for those wishing to relax with a drink. We checked in with a nice young lady, and then went to park the car in the complex just outside the door, very handy! Note a carpark is $10; not sure if this is per night or for the duration of your stay though. We paid $10 for the one night we were there anyhow.

Onto the rooms - very impressive. Very clean, tidy, stylish and modern. Fully stocked minibar, all the mod-cons! I was very happy with the room, it couldn't have been better. An after dinner mint on your bedside table was a nice touch too.

The hotel also has 24 hour room service which is always handy if you get a toasted sandwich craving at 2am! The bed was comfortable however the shower had less pressure as I would have liked, but apart from that the room and my stay was excellent.

In the morning, we went down for our buffet breakfast which was included in the room price. To be honest I was expecting just continental - cereals, fruit, toast, muffins. Nope... even better! There was a full spread including bacon, hash browns, tomatoes, sausages, scrambled eggs, PLUS the aforementioned cereals, fruit, toast and muffins! Everything was delicious, and the extremely attentive waiters I found to provide better service than I have had in some cafes, which was amazing. Toast was made to order, and tea and coffee brought out to you.

After breakfast we checked out and made the short trip back to Palmy.

I would definitely recommend the West Plaza to anybody staying in Wellington. It is true value for money, and we wouldn't hesitate booking again!
