Vanilla Ice product reviews

'Jono and Ben at Ten' and The Rock are bringing 90s rap icon Vanilla Ice to New Zealand for a one-off concert at Auckland's Powerstation on Friday 24th October, thanks to V's 'Give it a V' campaign.

"The 'Give it a V' campaign is about opening up to consumers and clearly showing them what it actually means to give something a V," says Luke Rive, Energy Category Manager at Frucor. "Take the ordinary, everyday, and set about making it awesome." The energy drink has already given a V to darts, art, even photo-bombing!

Jono Pryor and Ben Boyce asked the nation what they'd like to see 'get a V' and they answered with the now infamous Ice Bucket Challenge. Jono and Ben plan to deliver the ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge by bringing the Iceman himself - Vanilla Ice - out to New Zealand.

"We're excited that one of our favourite 90s artists is going to help us make the Ice Bucket Challenge bigger and better," says Boyce. "No doubt Vanilla Ice will be looking forward to getting to stop, collaborate and listen to us scream like little girls when he covers us in ice."

"Jono and Ben are the perfect partners for V because they understand the brand and what we are doing with the 'Give it a V' campaign," adds Rive. "Their tongue and cheek approach appeals to our shared audience and will make for some great content."

Tickets to this once-in-a-lifetime event are free, the first limited ticket release will be online at www.therock.net.nz from 6pm, Monday October 13. The public can also watch 'Jono and Ben at Ten' or listen to Jono & Ben, 3 - 7pm weekdays on The Rock for more chances to win tickets.

I was lucky enough to win tickets from TV3 to the Vanilla Ice Bucket Challenge. I assumed that it was just going to be a 5 second show and we would be back at my inlaws tucked up nicely by 9pm. The show apparently started at 7pm. We got there a little beforehand and had to sit outside till about 7.10pm. At 7.30 we were still standing around twiddling our thumbs and had no idea what was going on. Finally Jono and Ben came on and said things were running a little behind and we would have to wait for another 25minutes before Villany appeared.

I didn't realise that they were part of the show and my husband got rather excited when he heard that. I had a quick head count just before 8pm and there was about 120 people but by the time the show began there was closer to 1000. I might be showing my age here but Villany were extremely loud. The music just went through you to the bone, could not understand the singer half the time and all I could think was 'wow this is loud'. The crowd downstairs were popping there head and Jono and Ben were also filming there TV show so they were walking around. I have to admit I spent the whole time watching the basest he was like a miniature Flea from the Chilli Peppers his foot work was awesome and he was moving his whole body. You could tell he loved being there.

After there set the boys came back on and said Vanilla Ice wasn't even in the building and we would need to wait a little longer. By this stage my ears were ringing and I was just thankful for the somewhat quietness. Finally they came out and said the show was about to begin.

I am not a Huge Fan but I will admit to liking some of his songs when he was 'big'. Basically could only remember Ice Ice Baby so when he played his other songs it was like a blast from the past especially when Go Ninja came on from the Ninja Turtles movie. You could tell how happy and genuine he was to be in New Zealand. He was so enthusiastic and the crowd was pumped. He tipped ice cold water over Jono and Ben and then went in to Ice Ice Baby and it was amazing you couldn't help but scream out, but then he started pulling the crowd up on to the stage and it basically turned rather sleezy. You can tell he loves the ladies and the stage was full of them and the occasional guy.

It was a very random concert and it had its moments. By the end I think everyone was pumped and I was amazed at how friendly he was with everyone stopping for anyone to have a selfie and recording for people. It was a fun concert and something I am grateful for attending definitely a once in a life time show. Although in a way was more excited about seeing Jono, Ben and Guy Williams.
