Play School: Dress Up's product reviews

Every day we create something with many a child's favourite toy - boxes and explore the endless possibilities and variety which the imagination can bring to it. We pretend to be dancers and doctors, pirate princesses and clown princes. The toys go into outer space, try out some new hairdos at a wig shop, and sail across the seas. Through the windows children dress up, visit a sculpture garden, climb a lighthouse, get a check up at the doctors and splash in puddles.

I remember Play School from when I was younger I always enjoyed sitting down and watching the show when it was on TV and wondering what cool things we would make and see today. So when I saw this up for review I really wanted to get it for my son. To be honest after watching it it is not as good as I remember but I think we are so used now to bright and really cleverly animated shows that this seems a bit dull and old fashioned in comparison.

When the DVD arrived in the mail my boy was sitting watching Banana's in Pyjamas I presented him with the new DVD which spurred him to quickly change over DVD's straight away. Well he had barely got through the opening song when he had got up and once more changed the DVD back to Banana's in Pyjamas. So that was that for that day just not at all interested no matter how hard I tried to convince him to give it a go.

The next day I hid Banana's in Pyjamas (his favourite DVD) and slipped this into play at first he wasn't interested but after a little while he became more and more affixed on the screen. In the end I think he actually found he enjoyed the movie more than he probably expected. He hasn't watched it again since but I did catch him humming out a tune that was played on the DVD so I still have hope he will ask for it again one day soon.

The storyline of Dressing Up and pretend play is such a great one for pre schoolers who are so full of imagination and creativity and I loved the way Play School created so many different ways to explore dressing up. Like the old play school I remember there is story time, a session on creating, making food, and some sort of dress up singing session so there is lots to see and do. Cai became quite interested about what we would see out the window in each episode, he loves watching other children so these were probably the highlight for him.

I was quite interested in showing him this as out the window we seen children visiting the doctor, he is very scared of going to the doctor so thought it would be good to watch other children seeing the doctor. He did seem interested in this part and said doctor a number of times, still with that worry in his eyes, Cai not go doctors. So will be interesting to see if he changes his mind on the doctors if I talk to him about the DVD and other children seeing the doctor too.

All in all I liked this DVD it was quite nice to see something so simply made and with such simple activities and songs that most children would be able to do themselves at home.
