The Tide Lords #4 - The Chaos Crystal product reviews

The final instalment of this fabulous, bestselling series.

The Tide Lords have gathered in Jelidia to find out the secret of how to kill an imortal ... Cayal in particular. Before they can do this, however, they must find the Chaos Crystal that brought them to this world.

They initially head to Glaeba, where Arkady has been captured by Jaxyn. She escapes and flees to Caelum, where she runs into Warlock and his family and learns that Elyssa, Warlock's cruel immortal mistress, may know something about the location of the Crystal.

With every immortal on Amyrantha searching for this artefact, the stakes are very high ...

It's over.. the curtain has closed, and the fat lady has sung, so to speak. Or has she? Has Jennifer Fallon really finished with this series? I hope not!

Another easy page turner, this conclusion of The Tide Lord series brings long time rivals together in a reluctant truce as they work to stop Lukys bringing about the end of the world. The Chaos Crystal has finally been found and the real reason behind Lukys wanting it is revealed. Declan finds himself in an awkward position, an enemy amongst those who once thought him friend, who he now needs to convince that despite appearances, he hasn't really joined "the other side".

Although I did still thoroughly enjoy this book, I will admit I found it slower than the previous 3 installments. More of an enjoyable-yet-leisurely-stroll than the expected mad-adrenaline-pumping-dash-to-the-end of the others. While Book 3 had been jam-packed with thrilling action and had lots of little things happening that kept it flowing smooth and fast, "The Chaos Crystal" seemed as though the plot was far smaller... but had been pulled, stretched, and padded out to make it into a decent sized book. A shame to have it end this way, although the story itself was definitely enjoyable. Did Fallon run out of steam right at the end? With the way the book finished, I am seriously hoping not... and my fingers are ever so tightly crossed that she finds the "edge" again, and continues on with a brand new series that follows on from "The Tide Lords", as she did with "The Hythrun Chronicles" and the "Demon Child" trilogy.

However, despite all this, Fallon is still very high on my list of favourite authors, and I would HIGHLY recommend that ANY fantasy lover give her books a go.
