The Beader's Colour Mixing Directory product reviews

Colour can dominate a design or subtly accentuate other features. The way it is used can transform beadwork from mundane to magnificent. This indispensable book features 200 beautiful colour schemes created especially for beaders.

    •  Colour theory is explained, and you will discover how the finish of a bead can greatly alter the effect - from colour-lined and coated to metallic and transparent.
    •  The main directory section is organised into broad themes, from warm and cool, to vivid and bright and subtle and moody, each featuring a range of inspirational colour 'stories'.
    •  Each colour story is demonstrated using a range of beautiful beadwork, and clear graphic 'colour recipes' identify the precise colour proportions used
    •  The projects demonstrate ways in which to utilise colour schemes, from monochromatic earrins and a warm-toned choker, to a complementary necklace and a triadic bracelet.

This is a beautifully laid out book, crammed full with so much inspiration, helpful tips, and great ideas that as soon as I?d given it a quick flick through, I was planning my next trip to the nearest bead supply shop to add to my collection of beads, so I could get stuck into some of the projects inspired by what was in the book.
Firstly, the book takes you through the theory side of colour, exploring every possible aspect from the colour wheel (even going as far as to include a handy little fold out version to use while working on projects!); from the monochromatic, to warm and cool colours, and far far more. It even shows you through how things like the different size of beads, findings (clasps etc), type of thread, etc can affect the feel and colour of your work.
Next it takes you through the many MANY different colour schemes and the type of mood they represent, from firey volcanic colours, to candy colour combinations, to flowers and seasons, and OH so many others. I found it kind of mind boggling just how many colour schemes there were shown throughout this book, and it left me thinking up more of my own. These were shown by many examples of bead artists? work, most of which are great sources of inspiration, and making me wish I now had my own bead shop!! LOL!
The final chapter takes you through 10 easy-to-follow projects, showing several different colour combinations for each.
If you are even slightly interested in beading, then this book should already be a part of your personal library. If not, then what are you waiting for?? The shop?s thata way!!!! Pokey Tongue Icon
