The Logitech Wave Keys emerges as a new contender in the niche ergo-keyboard marketplace, showcasing distinctive features that blend style and functionality seamlessly. Its instant aesthetic appeal is underscored by a thoughtful design that incorporates a wave-like key placement, fostering a typing experience that is not only visually appealing but also remarkably comfortable. Beyond its external charm, the keyboard excels in connectivity options and boasts an impressive battery life, making it a commendable choice for users seeking a reliable and efficient portable peripheral.

The keyboard's visual appeal is heightened by a modern off-white chassis that aligns seamlessly with Logitech's recent design language. The incorporation of wavy keys not only contributes to the overall aesthetics but also serves a functional purpose by enhancing the ergonomic aspects of typing. The Wave Keys, available in both grey and white variations, integrates well with existing Logitech peripherals, offering users a cohesive and visually pleasing setup.

In addition to its visual appeal, Logitech emphasizes sustainability with the Wave Keys. The chassis is constructed from post-consumer recycled plastic, with variations in the percentage based on colour options. The commitment to sustainability extends to the packaging, sourced from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources, further solidifying the keyboard's eco-friendly credentials. Logitech proudly declares the Wave Keys as a carbon-neutral product, aligning with the growing demand for environmentally conscious technology.

The distinctive feature of the Wave Keys lies in the pronounced hump in the middle of its chassis, creating a wave-like structure that gives the keyboard its name. This design element is not just for visual flair; it serves a functional purpose by elevating and lowering the main alphanumeric keys in a way that promotes a more natural hand and wrist placement. In terms of performance, the Wave Keys departs from the mechanical keyboard trend and relies on membrane keys. While lacking the crispness of lower-profile scissor-actuated options or the precision of mechanical switches, the membrane keys offer a reasonably comfortable typing experience. However, users might need some time to adapt to the unconventional layout, and the learning curve is a factor to consider. The unconventional layout might require users to retrain themselves, especially with the arrow keys positioned differently, but this adjustment contributes to a more ergonomic typing experience in the long run. It will likely be worth the effort for long-time RSI/OOS sufferers who still need to stay online.

The keyboard's functionality is further enhanced by the inclusion of dedicated functions in the top row. These functions, including a dedicated emoji key, microphone mute button, and a shortcut to the snipping tool, cater to the evolving needs of users. While seemingly small additions, these features streamline tasks and improve overall user experience, particularly for those accustomed to a Mac environment.

Connectivity is a strong suit for the Wave Keys, operating exclusively in a wireless mode, supporting both Bluetooth and the bundled Logi Bolt receiver. The ability to connect to up to three devices seamlessly adds versatility, allowing users to switch between workstations effortlessly. The move to Logi Bolt, utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy, represents a notable shift from previous Logitech products, expanding compatibility to ChromeOS and Linux alongside Windows and macOS.

A standout feature of the Wave Keys is its remarkable battery life. Logitech claims the keyboard can last up to three years on AAA batteries. This longevity, coupled with the absence of any form of lighting, ensures that the keyboard remains a reliable and long-lasting peripheral without compromising on performance. Naturally, I won't be waiting on those test results before sharing this review! However, the unfortunate reason for such amazing battery life is the complete lack of any backlighting at all. This is sure to disappoint many users who utilise backlighting a lot. For this price point, backlighting would not be an unreasonable expectation, so the mark was missed somewhat.

While the Wave Keys does not feature any lighting, the keyboard excels in software functionality. The inclusion of Logi Options+ elevates the user experience with its slick interface and robust programming capabilities. Smart Actions, a standout feature, allows users to program multiple system-level commands with a single button press, enhancing efficiency and convenience. Logitech provides preset choices for users who prefer not to delve into extensive programming, catering to a broad spectrum of user preferences and experience levels.

Overall, the Logitech Wave Keys makes a compelling entry into the ergonomic keyboard landscape, offering a unique design that prioritizes both comfort and sustainability. Its visual appeal, coupled with thoughtful features such as dedicated functions and an integrated wristrest, positions it as a versatile choice for users seeking an ergonomic typing experience. While the initial adjustment period might be a consideration, the keyboard's long-lasting battery life, wireless capabilities, and powerful software make it a noteworthy contender in the realm of wireless keyboards.
