I have always found pop up books or books with cut outs or flaps possess some sort of magic. They always seem to hide so much awe and glee and both of my girls loved every pop up or flap book we owned until they were practically ruined. So that is why, I am a little concerned, with the paper which is used throughout this book - and all I could imagine as we turned each page was that it is really not going to take much effort for a page to be torn or flap to be pulled off - I know how eager kids can be. It just feels so delicate.

The story is delightful. Even my eleven year old was trying to guess the answer and on a couple of occasions got it wrong - but in all honesty so did I. A mole, umbrella bird and a vole are not something that I readily think of and when I made this comment my youngest daughter pointed out it was alphabetical (that made me feel silly considering the total of the book - I blame lock down!).

The pages are full of colour and amazement and show so much detail. Although a quick read I can see this taking a very long time the first couple of times your read it, as you discover the answer followed by discussions regarding the picture and then even discussing the animal. It created a few laughs between us as we all rushed to guess the creature. It then started up discussions about what animals they would of used if gotten a choice. Especially with the letter D.

I can imagine if we had this book a couple of years ago it would of been my daughters favourite book. She adores animals and even after we had finished reading the book she picked it back up again to look at the pictures. Unfortunately, it is a little young for my girls and so they both suggested we give it to my cousins kids. This would definitely be in the right age group with two kids under the age of five and one who has just started school. I can imagine they will get a lot of use out of it - but I will also tell my cousin to leave it on the book case as I would hate for it to be torn.

Such a great book. Highly recommend for anyone with young children who love animals and want to explore the world. It finishes off on a great note also 'Who is smaller than a Zebra? - Go back to the beginning of the book'. Yes, I am sure if we had this book with the girls growing up I would of ended up reading over a thousand times consecutively.
