Things In The Sea Are Touching Me! product reviews

Proud to promote NZ products"Look in the water, Ma! Golly, oh gee!
Some THING in the sea is TOUCHING ME!"

When a small child goes to the seaside with Mum and Ma, she is unprepared for "things" floating in the water. Ma explains what each one is and that it is nothing to be afraid of ... and then gets a big fright herself when Mum grabs her ankle!

You'll squawk, screech, yelp, and laugh out loud at the surprises for all on this funny-sunny family day at the beach. The simple, bold colours are perfect for young children. Themes include diversity, dealing with fear, outdoor education, and the seaside.

Illustrated by Minky Stapleton.

I have two children, one who is a bookworm constantly reading and the other a just turned 5 year old who is excited about reading books. So when I saw Things in the sea are touching me up for review I thought it was a great book to request. Things in the sea are touching me is a book written by Linda Jane Keegan and illustrated by Minky Stapleton. The book is published by Scholastic.

I read Things in the sea are touching me to Master 8 and miss 5. They both enjoyed the book. Master 8 liked the book giving it a rating of 9/10. He liked the different things they were finding in the sea and that they are relatable to what he has seen at the local beach. He said he also liked how 'Ma' told her what it was and she was no longer scared of what was in the sea.

Miss 5 was next to rate the book. 10/10. She loved it. She loved the catchy phrase that was repeated throughout the book, Look in the water, Ma! Golly, oh gee! Some THING in the sea is TOUCHING ME! Each time we got to this part she would join in with the reading.

Things in the sea are touching me is a good story that kids can relate to as the items are things they possibly could see at the beach. The story was written well and kept both my kids engaged in the book. It is beautifully illustrated. The 'scary' pages are black but when she finds out what is touching her it's back to the colourful illustrations.

For $18.99 I would probably think about purchasing the book depending on how much interested my children showed in it at the shop. It's a book I can see my daughter reading over and over again as she loves exploring the mud when the tides out. My son though probably won't it read again, I didn't see the same interest in him. It would probably be best for the 4 to 6 age group. It's probably not the first picture book I would recommend to people but I wouldn't hesitate if someone's looking for a picture book about the sea.

My children love books and they love the ocean so Things in the sea are touching me is a story that appeals to them very much. As soon as I removed this book from the package my youngest son grabbed it off me to see what it was and wanted to read it straight away. The eldest daughter read it to him as he followed along looking at the illustrations and laughing aloud at the rhymes of the story. The artwork in this book is well detailed and has a cool rustic look to it full of vibrant colours which give it a unique texture that is appealing to look at. My children enjoyed all the different facial expressions throughout the story and because of the emotions represented it really added to the context of the story and impact to the events unfolding.

My eldest daughter said that the rhythm of the story is well-paced, very satisfying and calming for one's mind plus it is easy to relate to as these are experiences that people go through swimming in the sea. I really enjoy the pages that show when she is off put not knowing what in the sea is touching her because the majority of the page is black as if to represent the unknown and her anxiety of worrying what it could be then on the next page its all cleared up to what it was and the colour in the illustrations return. This is a great story for kids as it focuses on learning to explore, getting to know your surroundings and learning to deal with the fear of the unknown.

I recommend this book for anyone with young children who wants learning material that could help with getting your children to gain confidence in exploring and dealing with the unknown. My children really enjoyed this story and my youngest wants it read to him every day at the moment as he loves the humour and illustrations. This is a great educational book and hopefully it influences children to overcome their fears and learn about the things that are troubling them so that they can understand them and deal with whatever they may be.
