Proud to promote NZ productsSshh ... NOT for parents! You can keep a SECRET, right?

Clara and I have a herd of tiny, talking, oopsie-whoopsie, flying horses and they're REAL! It's true.

Those naughty Miniwings get us into so much TROUBLE. Who would have thought an ear-splitting music concert could have such an ALARMING outcome?

With adorable full-colour illustrations by Kirsten Richards,

My daughter is an avid Miniwings reader and loves the series very much so you can imagine her excitement when the latest one in the series arrived. I have stated before that the miniwings books are great for younger readers transitioning into chapter books and the series keeps proving that with every new addition. The story is full of fun colourful illustrations and humour that children love and having a dictionary at the back of the book is great for helping to understand the funny terms used in the story.

My daughter love's these stories because there is always something going on and its full of so much adventure and mischief. The story itself is around ninety pages spread out over seven chapter's so it didn't take her too long to get through but as soon as she finished she was starting to read it again. Every book comes with a meet the miniwings section which has a brief description of each miniwing and their characteristics. In case at this stage your wondering what a miniwing is the best description I can provide is they are miniature flying horses that could fit in the palm of your hand similar to a fairy.

I recommend this book and others in the series to people who have younger children in the stage of transitioning to chapter style stories and love zany goofy stories full of excitement. This is one series I will continue to build upon for my children to read.

My daughter squealed with delight when she saw this book. She has read the first two of the series and was surprised that this and another book had come out that she was unaware of. She was half way thru another book and she oohhed and ahhhed over finishing that or just starting with this straight away but opted to finish the other book first. So four days later she was ready to read it. As with my other daughter who also received a book this allocation she decided to read one chapter a night - there are seven chapters so only took her a week to finish it.

Like the other 'Miniwings' books there is a break down of all of the characters - well the Miniwings at least and at the back is a Dictionary of their 'secret language' which is easily notifiable thru out the story as the font is always done differently, most of the words are easy to figure out the meanings but there was one or two words I did get stuck on. The pages are either half illustration and half writing or a whole page of writing with a picture taking up the other page. There is zany pictures and writing thru out the book so it does help make it entertaining for kids and the book oozes colour.

The story is very simple and it is perfect for pre-teens, actually, in saying that I am not sure how much longer it will keep my little Miss Nine entertained because it is a tad babyish and she is moving on to harder books, but I am sure Miss Six will happily take it off her hands, but - I think she will need a bit of adult supervision as a few words might be a bit tricky. I read the book in less than half an hour and it held my attention the whole time, which is surprising as a previous one I read did not. The miniwings were adorable if not mischievous and it does leave you wanting one.

This is a very cute series and I think it will only get better as the characters are becoming more established. It is a re-readable story line as my daughter as started reading a previous one again and has already said she is going to find 'Oceana's Kitty Catasrophe' before reading this one for the second time and little Miss Six has asked can she start reading them now that she reads chapter books. A series I will be keeping my eye on.
