Ever since I cane remember I have always had a sweet tooth, with one particular weakness - chocolate. As a child I remember there constantly being chocolate in the cupboard. As I have gotten older my love for chocolate is still just as strong, during my first pregnancy it was not uncommon for me to eat a king size block of chocolate in a couple of days. In the past I have been enjoying the cheaper chocolate but have recently started branching out and tasting more exotic chocolates. Swiss chocolate is widely renowned as being rich and delicious.

When I saw that KIWIreviews was offering some bars of Swiss milk chocolate, I desperately put my request in and awaited my review box to see if I was lucky enough to try. Thankfully nestled in my box was a bar, the first thing that grabbed my attention was how the packaging was very pretty with the Swiss flag and the Swiss Alps. I found the 100g size was just right for a treat for myself and my daughter to nibble away on, I was expecting a really creamy and light milk chocolate and I was not disappointed. This chocolate is simply delicious and I found that after having one piece I was craving the next piece. The milk chocolate wasn't bitter but it also wasn't super sweet.

Both my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this chocolate and are going to look for the other flavours made by this brand. I think that this bar of chocolate would be perfect to keep in my handbag or in the car for those moments when I need a sugar hit.

When you think of chocolate, Switzerland can never be far from your mind. Beautiful green pastures and crystal clear waters producing quality milk to make delicious milk chocolate. Having lived in the UK for many years, I was well aware of how good this chocolate could be. However, I had never been able to find any in New Zealand. I was so excited to see this Villars Classic Swiss Milk chocolate, and when I received it to review I eagerly dived into the packet.

I was so happy to see that this was packaged in the traditional way - in tin foil and then surrounded with a paper wrapper. There is something hugely nostalgic about this form of wrapping, and it also seems to keep it in much better condition than the more common plastic wrapping. When I first broke into the foil, the delicious creamy chocolatey smell greeted me, and I knew I was in for a real treat.

The chocolate itself is much thinner than the more classic Kiwi blocks. To me, the thinner pieces melt better on your tongue, giving you a much more rounded and creamier taste (definitely no complaints about this from me). The squares broke off easily and cleanly, which was quite a bonus. The chocolate, apart from being beautifully rich and chocolately, was really smooth- perfect for eating on its own. I can also imagine it making a really immense hot chocolate drink, and being great to cover truffles or give a really luxurious finish to any chocolate-based dessert. Before I knew it, I had finished off the whole bar- much to my husband's disgust. In reality, given the 100g size of the packet, it is probably more of a bar for sharing, but when the chocolate is that good, this is a tough ask!

Overall, this chocolate really was immense. Rich, creamy and smooth, easily big enough to share, but small enough to keep to yourself if you can't. Perfect for eating by itself, but equally good for cooking or baking, it is great value for money. I think I may be a little bit addicted to it!

After visiting Switzerland (Bern) in late 2009 and experiencing their chocolate on their home soil, we couldn't find anything close when we got home and still haven't. There is obviously Tolberone, but sometimes you just want a plain chocolate without any 'bits' in it. So with nearly 9 years of past experiences, I didn't hold too much hope in this Swiss chocolate. I am very picky when it comes to chocolate anyway. Oh wow, that first mouthful was so delicious, so divine, so smooth!! It was like being back in Switzerland and gorging in their delectable sweetness.

The size of the squares was absolutely perfect. A nice size that fits in your mouth without having to bite it or break it up, and easily melted in your mouth (but not easily in the hand I found, even in this hot summer weather). Being foil wrapped has kept the chocolate very fresh and not melted at all, and even kept it fresh once opened (not that there was much left after the first night between myself and hubby).

Comparably, the price is on the higher side with the size of the block. A lot smaller than the normal blocks you find on the shelf at the supermarket (normally 200-250g blocks) for the same, if not more, price tag. But for a special treat, I would definitely buy this one again! It didn't last too long with us both pecking at it, so would love to buy another one to try in some chocolate chip cookies, and really see how it compares to the other brand of chocolate blocks we currently buy.

Pure Swiss chocolate, those words make a chocolate fans mouth water, so expectations are always high when there is a preconceived notion that something is going to taste great. The packaging adds to that chocolate ideal, swiss alps, green meadows, cows, and fresh creamy milk, with segments of chocolate, all set the taste buds tingling. To me the package was family sized, twenty squares, and a weight of 100 grams meant it was designed to be shared.

The taste testing was done as a team, there was of course many willing volunteers willing to help with this product review! I gave everyone in the family a row of chocolate, four squares, and then I settled into try mine. I wasn't disappointed in the flavour or the texture of this chocolate, it was creamy and smooth, with a sweet milky flavour. It is one of those products that the flavour stays in your mouth after you finish your bite. The consensus from my dedicated team was that the chocolate was delicious, really good, and of course there was one critic, it's good but not as good as German chocolate. But I feel this statement has more to do with loyalty to her new best friend, a German exchange student.

I'm hard pressed to come up with any negatives for this product, I took it out on a picnic, and then we didn't end up eating it, so I put it back in the fridge and it was a week later we ended up eating it, and the chocolate seemed no worse for wear. The squares were tricky to break off, but I think that more to do with the fact that I had been keeping it in the fridge and, so it was very solid. As a kiwi, this chocolate is thinner than the segments that we are used too, but I think they are the perfect size for the composition of this chocolate.

I am a self-confessed chocoholic and this 'gene' has obviously been passed down to my two daughters as we were all extremely excited when we saw the bar of Villars Swiss Milk chocolate. The 100g bar comes in an attractive pack that features the Swiss flag and the Swiss Alps so we are under no illusions as to where it comes from! Although my daughters had eyes on this bar, I had other uses in mind for it.....

We were having dinner round friends and I decided to make a chocolate mousse using this bar of chocolate. Of course, I had to take one square to quality control it and it was delicious, very creamy and smooth. Even though it's not really a cooking chocolate, it melted nicely and when mixed with the cream and milk, gave a very light chocolate colour. When I took it round to my friends I could see by their faces that they were looking forward to sampling it and after dinner, it literally got demolished! I can successfully say that this mousse was a hit! Everybody commented on how smooth and creamy the mousse was and loved the rich milk chocolate flavour.

Swiss chocolate is notorious for its quality and this bar definitely surpassed expectations. I'm sure it would be great for baking and hot chocolates... that's only if you can make it last that long!

Since day one from receiving my KIWIreviews box my daughter has been reminding me every five seconds that there is Swiss Milk Chocolate that we need to try. She has picked it up, out of the box and put on my seat, more than once, just to subtly remind me that we still needed to open it and try. Maybe it is the reason why I have held out for so long? Even, while out doing Christmas Grocery Shopping I said 'oh I need Chocolate' and she quickly said no we have 'Swiss Chocolate waiting at home for us'. She would remind me on more than one occasion that you can not get better than Chocolate that is made in Switzerland.

After eating a left over lunch I mentioned I was still a little peckish and she ran out of the run and returned with the chocolate so I could no longer keep saying no. I gave her 2 squares, her sister 2 squares and hubby and I got to try a line of four. For about the first time in the past three days there was complete silence as we all savored the taste.

First of I have to say it is not as creamy/milky as I was expecting. I thought it would just melt in my mouth like another Swiss Chocolate I had tried, I expected it to be more airy and light. I had better point out that I am the only one that felt this way as the other three were saying how yummy and creamy it is and all had stuck there hands out asking for more. My husband also stated that 'Swiss Chocolate is definitely superior to the chocolate that we are used too. After sneaking away to write my review I had another two squares and I too noted the creaminess more this time and how yummy it really is, maybe I need to stop making assumptions and just take it as it is.

This actually would be amazing in a hot chocolate made purely out of this and maybe a creamy milk. I could imagine sitting in front of an open fire drinking it. It is also a perfect as an after dinner treat where you don't want anything too over powering. It does have a very nice after taste and I do agree it is a fantastic taste. It is something I would consider purchasing again especially during the colder months and is definitely superior to its competition here in New Zealand.
