The Mentalist: Seventh and final season product reviews

The series follows Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He uses skills from his former career as a successful, yet admittedly fraudulent, psychic medium to help a team of CBI agents solve murders. The real reason for Patrick Jane's involvement with law enforcement is to track down the serial killer known as Red John, who was responsible for the brutal murders of his wife and his daughter.

Before the murders, Jane had a lucrative career as a con man, however he blames himself for the death of his wife and daughter and so he abandoned his career and teamed up with the CBI to solve crimes. His main focus is on the cases involving Red John or Red John copycats. He admits to faking the supernatural aspects of his skills, often asserting that there's no such thing as psychics, yet he has finely honed skills in cold reading, hypnosis and pick-pocketing, as well as powerful observational skills and a deep insight into the human psyche and behaviour.

I absolutely love the tv series The Mentalist, but for reasons beyond my control, I never got to see the final season. So, when I was chosen to review this dvd by KIWIreviews, I was over the moon. The seventh season obviously carries on from the one before, and you hope that you will finally get to see Jane and Lisbon finally get married or something, although admittingly it does not seem at all likely. As the series progresses in fact, it seems very unlikely that Jane will even still be with FBI let alone Lesbon.

A new member joins the team and although a likeable character, it almost seems she may play apart in bringing Jane down. Something about her makes you wonder what her game is. Shes seems untrustworthy but at the same time you know she can be trusted.. Whether this was intentionally done I guess we will never know as the series is done lol

As the storyline unfolds, Lisbon and Jane finally decide to get married and as awesome as this is, its still hard to believe it will happen with all their differences. As Jane struggles with the idea of his partner workibg such a demanding and dangerous job, he deliberately goes against what his bosses tell him (more than usual) in order to keep Lisbon safe. Lisbon however does not appreciate this and things become very tense between the two. Like every other episode/season I have watched I love trying to read what Jane is thinking, and trying to figure out the answers before he reveals them. Sometimes I am right, but mostly I'm wrong lol

It is a wonderful season to end the series, filled with suspence, heartache, confusion, loss and love. The writers and produces have kept up the excellent storyline to finish the series. I admit I found myself holding my breath more than once. it was awesome to see some previous characters return for the last episode and I admit that I was a bit surprised by how it finally ended but loved every single moment. its a shame that there will be no more but all good things come to an end eventually.
