If You Were Me product reviews

Not long after Aliya's family escapes Afghanistan for Britain, her brother is accused of a bomb attack. Aliya is sure of his innocence, but when plumber's son Dan finds a gun in their bathroom, what's she to think?

Dan has his own reasons for staying silent: he's worried the gun might have something to do with his dad. Thrown together by chance, they set out to uncover a tangled and twisted truth.

I have never heard of Sam Hepburn before but I am always keen on giving new authors a try. When the book arrived after reading the brief on the back I was keen to get started. Right from page one I was hooked and didn't want to put the book down!

The story is told by two of the characters, Aliya who's family has just escaped from Afghanistan to London and Dan a local who crosses paths with Aliya. From the moment they meet their lives are intertwined and each are on a journey to protect their families. The story is written by alternating chapters between Aliya and Dan, Sam does a wonderful job by writing in slightly different styles for each character so it's very easy to tell who's point of view it is. Other books I have read where there have been dual points of view I have usually found slightly confusing.

From the start Sam's writing draws you into the characters and you can't help but get emotionally attached. Aliya will win your heart and you will find yourself wanting to be able to help her.
From chapter one there is lots of drama and action which makes you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. The pace keeps up throughout the whole book, it will keep you guessing as it takes you on a roller coaster ride fill of action, drama, suspense and emotion!

If you are looking for a book you can't put down then this is it. If this book is a good example of Sam Hepburn's writing I will be seeking out more of his work for sure!
