This is the second book I have read in this series and Mr 5 and I are enjoying ourselves! We love humour and a bit of mischief. We are certainly getting this from the Dirty Bertie Books.

Like the previous book that I read and reviewed, Dirty Bertie Rats, this book is set up in the same way. It has three stories which are made up of four chapters each. The length of the stories are manageable for young readers. The stories are fast paced and entertaining for a young child and the adults reading with them. I am assuming that the other books in the series follow the same formula.

This evening, I had friends over for dinner and the 10 year old boy was excited when he saw that we were reading Dirty Bertie Horror here. He has read lots of the previous ones and is looking forward to reading the new ones out.

Dirty Bertie Horror is a bit different to the previous one we read. The first story in this book deals with relationships between older people and the possibility of them kissing, holding hands etc. Bertie is revolted by the idea and does everything he can to stop it from happening. The theme was well above Mr 5's head and although he enjoyed the story, he seems a bit confused as to why Bertie wouldn't like his Gran kissing a man she was dating. Young children see kissing, cuddling etc as normal and nothing wrong with it. There is a point when children start to see it as gross for older people to carry on in this way. It is children of this age that the stories would be aimed at - perhaps around ten years of age. I found the story quite funny too and enjoyed reading as Bertie worked out ways to discourage such behaviour!

The second story is set in an art gallery. It was the last place that Bertie wanted to go on his school trip. He manages to ruin a priceless piece of artwork while being silly. I must say, I couldn't work out why the story to van Boff as the artist of the piece of artwork. The illustration looked like Sunflowers by van Gogh. I couldn't see why the author wouldn't make the link to the real artist. Unless of course I am missing something from previous books.

The final story is the one that appealed to Mr 5 and me the most. It involved Bertie and his friend taking on a newspaper run. It was rather humorous and involved them trying to problem solve when faced with a big dog. I could imagine business deals going on between friends in order to make a dollar or two, just like Bertie and Darren did with Darren's cousin Nick.

We enjoyed reading this Dirty Bertie book. Although it didn't entertain us quite as much as Rats, it was still humorous and made us giggle a bit as we read it. We do look forward to reading more books in the series.

We have never heard of the 'Dirty Bertie' series so felt very lucky to be given the privilege of reviewing Dirty Bertie Horror!! The story is broken down into three manageable chapters with plenty of sketch styled illustrations to keep young minds captivated.

Both kids were in fits of laughter all throughout the story, they couldn't get enough and we read the entire book in one sitting. My son also took the story to school to share with his friends so I think Dirty Bertie is a huge hit and is in line to become a house hold favourite! It is hard to find a story that keeps Mr 3 interested, entertains Miss 9 and Mr 7 and is easy enough for the older to read without a parent when necessary but Dirty Bertie ticked all of those boxes!

Short and manageable for younger minds and perfect to keep in your bag for long waits or in the car to keep the kids entertained a while. Dirty Berties mischievous ways will captivate your children, make them laugh and be hot topic in their world! My sons favourite parts were the pranks Dirty Bertie pulls and Miss 10 loved the naughty but funny things Dirty Bertie always says.
