Another great Captain Underpants adventure by Dave Pilkey that had me in fits of laughter. As with other books in this series this book isn't short of potty talk but that is one of the things that makes the books so laugh out loud funny. My nephew loves this sort of humour so these books are pretty big on his list of cool things to read. Dave Pilkey is so good at being able to create a read that is never short of humour that is going to appeal to young children.

We yet again find ourself time travelling, which is lots of fun but causes lots of trouble as time travelling ultimately could. This allows the author to talk about the implications of time travel hence weaving some educational context into the book. Take that teachers this book has a lot to offer and the kids are enjoying reading it at the same time, that's got to get a 10 out of 10 in my eyes.

One of the cool things about these books is they have a little flip the page part where you can flip the pages and see a little scene play out. Me and my daughter did these together and had a lot of fun going fast to see the pictures moving. I looked forward to seeing this after discovering it in the last book. It is cool to see something interactive like this weaved into the storyline. Also never short of comic strips and funny images, plenty of bum shots, and toilet pictures to create a laugh.

I have a lot of time for Dav Pilkey. In the blurb in the back of this book, he explains that he had trouble in school and struggled with several issues. Yet he is now a successful author of not just this series but several. And the biggest thing is, that every time I pick one of his books up, no matter what series they are always very funny books. We roll around on the bed in fits of giggles, because this guy know how to write funny stories that appeal to all ages.

This book was really no different from the other Captain Underpants books. You had mostly the same characters. You had a far fetched and funny tale of two young lads and their principal friend/enemy. Add to that a bit of comic book magic, and the flip action fight scenes, this was very entertaining. This book had my daughter up on the bed leaning over my shoulder and clambering over my back to see the book from my perspective.

We do have to be careful with the flip-o-matic action. In the past we have ripped a page out of sheer excitement to flip as fast as possible. This time around we were much more careful with the book, but still got the full effect. It's fair to say excitement reigned even with us taking care.

My favourite parts were when the eggs hatched and they discovered that they had strange hybrid animals. The kids' discussion about how the animal came to be was so funny. My daughter laughed along, but I could tell she wasn't fully appreciating the conversation in the way I did as an adult. I also liked each breaking of the fourth wall, which Pilkey does a lot.

My daughter's favourite part was the accidental outcome of the time traveling that was going on. I found that part a bit tough to get my head around, but only because I was struggling to keep up with who was who. They still need to resolve some of that. I can't wait for the next exciting adventure!
