Personally I wouldn't worry about this type of book too much but it is short and to the point and appeals to my boys so I suppose I would be buying the whole series. On the plus side is that the book is short and only deals with one battle at a time but on the negative is that it can be a bit boring after a few of the earlier stories (but that is my thoughts not the kids).

I really liked that the other person in the book was a girl (even Kai seemed surprised to find a girl in battle with him) so that shows that girls can be strong and do things the boys can do. Li bionic companion was a a cat so there was also the dog vs cat aspect to the story which helped make it a bit more funny.

I know that the boys will love this book and have asked me to buy them all the books, it is helping their interest in reading so I will be on the look out for more of these books but I really wouldn't recommend reading them too close to bed time as last time I did the boys were bouncing around and acting out the battles and were too worked up to be going to sleep.

This is the 15th book in the Boy vs Beast series and the 3rd involving mega-mutants. The book starts off with a prologue detailing how the Earth is separated from Beastium and it's the job of the Border Guards to protect Earth from the beasts that dwell there. It has a game like feel where the Border Guards progress through the ranks by battling and gaining new upgrades and battle gear.

The book follows a young Border Captain and his bionic canine (battle companion) who need to form a battle team and take down a water mega-mutant. Each mutant is different with their own battling styles and skills which keeps these books from becoming repetitive.

My son loved it - anything with monsters and battles and it's a win. Lots of action, lots of excitement and a bit of humour all come together to give a fun, well balanced book. It held my son's attention the entire time and with only a few black and white illustrations throughout, that's saying a lot. There's also a cool graphic style section that depicts part of the battle. The text is simple and easy to read and I would highly recommend this book for encouraging independent reading for ages 6+.

I'm picky when it comes to choosing what I let my son read but this book ticks all the boxes and we'll definitely be reading it over and over again.
