This was originally meant to be an expansion of Saints Row III, but eventually got out of hand and they decided to make it into a game in its own right. Was that the right decision? I'm not too sure.

The plot is far fetched, but reasonably well written. The game follows on directly after the previous game, and after an excessively violent and exciting opening scene, you are dumped into a simulation (a Matrix-style situation), this works out in a manner that physics no longer matters, and these simulations are effectively alternate universes that can be hacked and altered by your friends. Your superpowers quickly render vehicles obsolete.

The popularity of the "super powers" were clearly well voiced, as they are back as a permanent feature, and the weaponry become increasingly awkward and random, moving towards the insane weapons from Ratchet and Clank; such as the Inflato-Ray, Disintegrator, Black Hole Launcher, Abductions Gun, and Dubstep Gun. I have enjoyed the level of character customization with this latest Saints Row game, with both basic and advanced options available, you can play as yourself if you choose.

This was an entertaining game, but it did not take very long to finish. In fact, I finished the game in under a day, which is surprising for someone as bad at games as I am. An enjoyable game, but I still think it would have been better being shrunk down and left as an expansion to the 3rd installment.
