One of my tamariki got himself a fancy new tablet thing for Christmas, so he thought I might want to have his "old" one to use around the house. I hardly ever use it unless it's cold and I am in bed trying to get some heat to soak back into my old bones. The most annoying thing is that unlike my old laptop, I can't set the screen at an angle I like and have it stay there. Until I saw this come up for review and was lucky enough to get chosen for it.

Once more I was treated to another visit from the nearby mokopuna once they saw the courier pull up. I had to work hard to stop myself from bursting into gleeful laughter at the expressions of disappointment when they saw it was just "some stupid metal book stand or something! Stink one Koro, why didn't you get anything useful this time?" I tried to explain that it WAS useful. To me. Just not to them, and I was fine with that. Like the hapless children they are, so wrapped up in their self-centered 'gimme gimme gimme' world, they couldn't grasp the idea that something could be useless to them, but useful to someone else. So, it was a mercifully short visit this time, and I was free to play with my new toy.

The first thing that caught my attention was how stylish it was. Sleek and smooth, it was a very simple design. Less to break, less to go wrong. I think I would have liked the blue one better, as it would have been a closer fit with the decore, but black goes with anything. At least that's what the ladies at the Bridge Club tell me. It's funny though, they look at me strangely when they say that, and I never actually wear any black. Wink Icon Old Koro's still got swagger. LOL Icon

So, the stand. It is also nice and tidy, taking up very little room on my bedside table. That means I can have it there overnight, with my tablet acting as some fancy multifunctional mini-TV, eReader, alarm clock, and medication reminder thanks to that wonderful app I found out about in the KIWIreviews ezine last month. I was really impressed at the construction. Having been in situations where fancy machines are more of a danger than a blessing, I think I can appreciate the simplicity and elegance of this in ways most consumers these days wouldn't even think of.

For less than $20, this is something I think every tablet owner should have. While I think something that folds down flat would suit my needs the best, I would prefer to have something like this where the durability and expected lifespan of it is probably longer than mine. Means I won't have to go look for something else. Wink Icon
