I own the board version of this book, having never read it before I brought it for my daughter's first Christmas directly from Scholastic trying to build up her library of books with board books suitable for babies/infants.

We love the bright, bold and well planned out pictures that tell the story so well. Which is probably why this won so many awards. First time reading it I was caught off guard a little bit with some tongue twisters but over time you get use to it. This has been a great book that has turned my little girl into loving diggers - so its not just for the boys...! Its for everyone.

One of our favourite parts is the very end when the children reflect back on the events from the day this story is talking about, my daughter loves to ask so many questions about this book on every page. She also loves being able to read one of the classic lines - It got STUCK!

This story helps to tell children that sometimes you don't have to be big to achieve things, that when you are little you can do great things. Which is an important thing for children to know and understand that their size and age should never stop them from achieving in life.

Highly recommend having this book in your children's library, its one that you can read over and over again. I look forward to being able to reading some of the other adventures the Little Yellow Digger goes on.

I have been working in early childhood for many years and the whole time I have The Little Yellow Digger has been a favourite book. I have read it so many times that I can now read it word for word without looking at the book.

When I saw the book and digger set came out I knew I had to buy it, I was so excited about having a little yellow digger that I didn't actually realise it moved along a track you drew until I got it home. I'm still not sure how I missed that on the box but I was even more excited about the set and had to have a play straight away.

After raiding the remotes for batteries I grabbed a bit of paper and drew a track. Off the digger went, I was so excited knowing the children at work were going to love it. The next day I went into work well prepared with spare batteries. We had huge rolls of paper so with an large group of children interested the second they saw the digger we unrolled a sheet of paper down the room and I showed them how to draw a track. Everyone then enjoyed a turn adding to the track and we set the digger off, considering the twist and turns the children had drawn the digger did quite well only failing a couple of times which was more due to track design than anything else.

This set just adds a little extra to an already well loved book! I think it would make a perfect gift and I already have plans to buy more to pass on to others.

When this book and digger set came out last year I had to get it for my son although I think it was more for me than him. I was totally wanting to try out the little digger than could follow your own drawn tracks as I thought that sounded awesome. We used to have the Little Yellow Digger book when my daughter was little so I knew it was a great story and that my son would love it.

The little digger is so cool, you need a pretty big sheet of paper for it to drive around on and I found it worked best on a hard surface rather than the carpet. So we put a large sheet of paper down on the lino and drew our track. It was pretty cool it followed it really well which I think is pretty amazing. My son is more interested in pushing the digger around by himself though and generally uses it on his car road mat with his other toy cars.

He loves the story of the little yellow digger and we read it quite often. He has his own ride on digger and he will often sit on that when we read the story and put his hard on. He has learnt to say the word digger now being a real boyish boy so he likes to point at the book and say digger as I read.

I have always loved The Little Yellow Diggers books and own them all. I have also purchased several of them for overseas friends and family as gifts for their babies. Now the original book has come out with a magical digger it is the perfect gift for an older preschooler.

The story is one that the kids all love. It is written very cleverly with rhythm and rhyme. It is a bit of a tongue twister especially for the first reading but over the years I have read it so much (almost daily when I was a New Entrant teacher) I can read it with my eyes closed now. I love how it is all the digger's adventures and although the driver is pictured it isn't about him. It is also a story about something small helping those that are bigger.

The kids all loved the digger. I don't think they realised there was a book in the box. They just wanted to play with the digger. After raiding the remote controls for the right batteries we were away. I didn't have a large enough piece of paper so tape some sheet together. I drew a track and the digger was off. I was amazed to see how it followed my track and the odd time it strayed (usually because one of the kids bumped it) it was easy to put back on course even my three year olds were doing it.

I would recommend if you are giving it as a gift to also include a couple of AAA batteries and a roll of white paper as these are needed before you can use the digger.

I have never read The Little Yellow Digger so this book with bonus Trace and Race Little Yellow Digger was a new entrant to our house. This is one of the first books that has captivated Miss One from start to finish even when read twice through. She loves it. Miss Four and Miss Six also liked it and we have reread it so many times. The story is very simple (about the Little Yellow Digger and a few other stuck diggers and what happens next) and a great example of teamwork. The rhyming makes reading it fun and the kids got the hang of saying it out loud with me. I loved the illustrations which are really simple but very entertaining. Definitely a great little book to buy just on its own.

But wait there's more! You get your own Little Yellow Digger! This is so cool. You will need a big piece of paper or you can use a small piece but it isn't as good. We used a big piece of cardboard and then tried different bits of paper we had. You will also need two AAA batteries for the Digger and a small screwdriver to unscrew the battery cap which was a bit tight on ours. The marker pen can then be used to draw the track. Once the track is drawn (or if you are quick as you are drawing) you turn on the Little Yellow Digger and it magically follows the line! It really is very cool. The first time we did it we did the line too close to the side of our cardboard so then we turned it over and did the line closer in from the edge. This was perfect and the Little Yellow Digger just cruises around hunting for track to follow!! My girls just LOVE this. So entertaining. We are now on the hunt for some more big bits of card for more track! The Digger works without the track but the track gives great novelty value.

It is recommended for ages 5 and up but if supervised I would happily give this to a four year old to use. Miss One loves watching this but can't be trusted to leave it alone! A brilliant gift with Christmas coming up just make sure you have paper on hand to use Smile Icon.
